Jordan Clarkson , SG UTA ($4,700)
Coming off the bench doesn’t seem to faze Clarkson or hinder his production, in fact the opposite is true, but he is priced as someone who doesn’t begin the game on the floor. With an average of 28 minutes played per game over his last five, we don’t have to worry as Clarkson has plenty of time to put the ball through hoop. That is good thing since it is the main source of value for him as is averaging 16 shot attempts per game with a little more than half of those coming from three-point land. Over this stretch Clarkson is averaging 18.6 points per game with a low of 13 and a high of 25; which came last night. I’d expect him to keep shooting which gives him a floor of about 20 fantasy points that he has only failed to reach twice all season.
Juan Toscano-Anderson, SF GS ($5,200)
There is nothing wrong with going back to a familiar face as long as the production and price continues to make sense. In Toscano-Anderson’s case he remains in the starting lineup and faces a Nets team tonight that has struggled to focus on the defensive end this season. As he has gotten more playing time over his last five games, Toscano-Anderson has averaged 8.8 points per game (with a high of 14 and a low of two) but the good news is that he is also pulling down 8.4 rebounds per game. That has helped give him a floor of 22 points over this stretch and if he reaches double figures in scoring (not a huge lift) he is a good bet to eclipse the 30-point mark.
Danilo Gallinari , SF ATL ($4,000)
In the case of Gallinari, I am following the talent. The problem though, is that talent hasn’t exactly led to the production we expected from him after returning from injury January 22nd. Two games ago Gallinari logged a high of 30 minutes, but that only translated to 11 points, three rebounds, and three assists (19.1 fantasy points). Things got even worse last night as he scored just two points in 17 minutes of play so we are really just driving right into the storm here. With that being said, not much is required from Gallinari based on his salary tonight and you could put that cost savings to good use as it is only a matter of time that he finds his shot.
DraftKings
Nerlens Noel , C NY ($3,900)
One man’s injury is another man’s opportunity, so with Mitchell Robinson sidelined with a broken hand, Noel steps into the starting lineup to replace him. In 22 games this season, Noel is averaging just 3.5 points per game, but he is grabbing 5.2 rebounds and blocking two shots per game to round out the fantasy production. In his last two games, Noel has put up 16.50 and 21.75 fantasy points while playing a limited role behind Robinson. While we can’t expect him to step right in and replicate Robinson’s production, a few more minutes will likely serve Noel well and provide a little more boost to his production. Plus, on a short late slate, he allows you to save substantial money at the center position while still getting a player for whom playing time won’t be an issue.
Derrick Rose , PG NY ($4,800)
With just four games there is going to be some overlap, or maybe it’s my delusional Knicks’ fandom making an appearance, but Rose has certainly proved himself worthy in his first two games with New York. The point guard has played 20 minutes in each contest and that is perfectly acceptable from a fantasy perspective based on his production. Rose has scored 14 points in each game while handing out an average of 4.5 assists and picking up 2.5 steals. Last night was the better of his two performances with six assists and four steals, but he has proven to be a quick accumulator of production.
Sterling Brown , SF HOU ($3,700)
Let’s stay with the same game and now go across the court to Brown. While the forward isn’t in the starting lineup, he has played between 25 and 28 minutes in four of last five games. Brown has averaged just under eight points a game, but when you combine that with seven rebounds and a few assists, you have a player that is good bet to surpass 20 fantasy points. It might not be exciting, but for the price it sure is useful.
