Well folks, it’s Thursday again, which means we get another shot at taking down the almighty Howard Bender over on Boom Fantasy! We’ve been beating him with ease; so let’s keep the streak going! For today’s Fantasy Alarm tournament on Boom, they’ve gone essentially all NBA questions with a little taste of MLB. Let’s dive into them and see what we can come up with.
Question one asks us who will score more points between Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love. Even though Boom gives us each players points per game this postseason – which is advantage Irving – lets
dive deeper into the numbers. For the entire playoffs, Irving is averaging six points more than Love, but for this series specifically, Love has narrowed the gap to two. It’s surprising Irving has scored this well seeing how Boston has two of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA in Marcus Smart and Avery Bradley seemingly guarding him all game. Love’s matchup is a cakewalk as everyone and their mother knows Boston has no interior defense. Before you automatically clicking Irving’s name, dive into the numbers more in depth.
The second question is also a question about who will score the most points and it includes Avery Bradley, Jae Crowder, Al Horford and Tristan Thompson. Thompson is definitely the underdog and the least skilled offensively but like I mentioned with Love, the Celtics have no interior defense and he could have a ton of second chance opportunities on the offensive glass. The three Celtics are really a toss up as they’ve played much more team oriented basketball since Isaiah Thomas went down with injury. Bradley is the most individually talented scorer, but both Horford and Crowder can get hot and fill up a box score.
The two best rebounders in this question are on Cleveland, but considering who you chose in the last two questions, should play a factor in answering who will have the most rebounds in question three. Love has dominated the glass against Boston and you know James can, but both Horford and Crowder can be really good rebounders too. Horford’s in a sneaky spot because they need him desperately to bang inside with Love and Tristan Thompson and keep them from all the second chances they’ve gotten this series.
What would a three-point question be like if Kyle Korver weren’t involved, right? But this might not be the spot for the sharpshooter. He’s really playing limited minutes and Coach Lou hasn’t shown any indication that will change. Avery Bradley is shooting an abysmal 25-percent from three, J.R. Smith is seemingly deferring to one of the big three every time he touches the ball and Marcus Smart is stroking it at a 42-percent clip but seven of his eight makes came in one game. All things you should consider.
Question five is a cross between baseball and basketball and whether there will be the most of strikeouts from one pitcher or assists from one player. Marcus Smart is the underdog according to Boom’s point system but let’s not forget he’s now playing heavy minutes as the team’s leading distributor. He’s had at least six assists in three straight games. If you think selecting a pitcher is the way to go, consider that Michael Wacha has a worse K/9 rate, but the Dodgers have struck out the 10th-most times in baseball, while Kenta Maeda’s K/9 looks better, but is facing a Cardinals team that has struck out the 10th-fewest times in baseball.
The final three questions are individual ones. How many rebounds will Tristan Thompson get? How many points will LeBron James score? How many points will Kyrie Irving score? When considering each one of these questions, you should think about what you feel the outcome of Game 5 will be. The Celtics have played Cleveland extremely tough over the last two games, but what do they have left in the tank? If you think it’s a blowout, does that mean all three of these guys play fewer minutes than we’re accustomed too? These are just some of the questions you need to ask and eventually answer for yourself when answering the questions provided by Boom.
Make sure to join Fantasy Alarm’s contest over on Boom for tonight for a chance to take down Howard Bender. Consider all of the data I provided for you and you shall be victorious!
