I said it about quarterbacks and I’ll say it about running backs as well. It’s hard to win without a good running back. A high floor of touches is an incredible thing and sure, you’re going to have an outlier here and there, but more often than not, you know what you’re going to get from some of these guys. You know Le’Veon Bell is going to get around 25 touches each week, while David Johnson will be somewhere near that mark as well. Houston’s Lamar Miller only had eight carries last week, but that was an outlier for him. He’ll bounce back this week. It’s worth noting that he’s actually the No. 6 running back this week. Sorry Lamar, not quite good enough to crack the top 5.

Here are the top 5 running backs for Week 6.

Le’Veon Bell @ MIA

Bell will continue to do it all, excelling both on the ground and in the passing game. He’s seen 17 targets through two games and seeing as Tennessee running backs put up 175 yards on the ground last week, it’s no real surprise the dual-threat back tops the list here in Week 6. Bell is averaging 166 total yards per game this season.

David Johnson vs. NYJ

Like Bell, Johnson is an exceptional dual-threat running back. Even if he can’t get it going on the ground, which hasn’t been the case this season, he finds other ways to be relevant in fantasy formats. He’s coming off his best game of the season, and even though he has a tough matchup with the Jets, he doesn’t leave the RB1 echelon. Johnson is averaging 139 total yards per game this season.

Ezekiel Elliott @ GB

Elliott is coming off his best game as a professional and this will be his first real test as a member of the Dallas Cowboys. Green Bay has been the toughest team to opposing running backs this season, allowing no team’s grouping of running backs to eclipse 50 yards in a single contest. Even if he struggles, Dallas is committed to giving him plenty of touches and that Dallas offensive line is excellent. RB1 despite the tough matchup.

LeSean McCoy vs. SF

Last week was the first time all season that McCoy had caught less than three passes in a game this season. He averaged an exceptional 9.6 yards per carry last week and with Buffalo likely to get ahead early on San Francisco, we could see close to 22-25 carries for Shady this week. San Francisco is allowing the eighth-most fantasy points per game to opposing running backs this season.

DeMarco Murray vs. CLE

Murray continues to get plenty of work in the passing game, which only boosts his fantasy resume on a weekly basis. He’s averaging 22.6 carries and 3.3 receptions per game over the last three weeks and that my friends firmly places him in the RB1 category. He’s averaging just under 130 total yards per game during this three game stretch. Expect similar numbers this week against a below-average Cleveland defense.
