Well, here we are, finding ourselves looking at the tight ends, the security blankets for their respective quarterbacks. Many tight ends aren’t the focal points of the team’s offense, but there are a few exceptions to that rule. On the other hand, you have plenty of other guys that expect to get plenty of work on a regular basis. This could be the position that wins you a bunch of money or gets your season long team to a perfect 1-0 record. Let’s dive in.
Jordan Reed vs. PIT
Did you really think I was going to go anywhere else? Reed is a monster who is in store for a big 2016 season. Quarterback Kirk Cousins will call his number often, so get ready for a big game for Reed. Not to mention the fact that this will be a high scoring game, so Reed is essentially a lock for at least one touchdown in Week 1.
Delanie Walker vs. MIN
In terms of the Tennessee passing attack, Walker is the focal point. His 133 targets and 8.9 per game average were the highest in all of football. Sure, Tajae Sharpe is on town, but Walker is the most valuable Tennessee pass catcher. Look
Zach Ertz vs. CLE
Doug Pederson loves his tight ends and Ertz will continue right where he left off at the end of the 2015 campaign. Only four teams surrendered more touchdowns to tight ends than the Browns last season and with Carson Wentz under center, he’s going to look to his security blanket. Don’t worry, Carson, you got a friend in Zach.
Coby Fleener vs OAK
Fleener will be one of the first three players Brees looks towards in a high-scoring matchup on Sunday. You can trust Fleener as a TE1 this opening weekend.
Travis Kelce vs. SD
Kelce surely doesn’t carry the upside of a Reed, Gronkowski or Walker, but what he does provide is a stable floor that you can rely upon on a weekly basis. Jamaal Charles likely won’t play, which will make Kelce the second option in the passing game. He will be a Top 5 tight end in Week 1.
