Houston Astros vs. Texas Rangers Predictions: Saturday, September 6th

Baseball fans are gifted with an exciting pitching matchup as the Texas Rangers host the Houston Astros tonight. In this AL West showdown, we get Jacob deGrom vs. Hunter Brown. Both should be on point and keep this game low-scoring.

Brown has been excellent for the Astros this season. He owns a 2.34 ERA and 1.01 WHIP, including a dominant 1.69 ERA over his past seven outings. The right-hander has also allowed two or fewer earned runs in 22 of his 27 starts overall this year.

Admittedly, the Rangers are hot offensively right now and present a tough matchup on paper. Brown can be up for the challenge, though. He’s given up two or fewer earned runs in seven straight starts coming into the weekend.

Meanwhile, deGrom boasts a 2.69 ERA and 0.92 WHIP this season. After some shaky outings recently, the veteran has bounced back with a 2.08 ERA over his past four starts. The right-hander will now take on a Houston offense that’s been inconsistent over the past week.

The Astros have scored three or fewer runs in five of their last eight games. They also have a below-average .285 wOBA vs. right-handed pitching in the last week (22nd in MLB). It’s an exploitable matchup for deGrom, who owns a 2.20 ERA at home this year. Plus, he’s held Houston to two runs over 14 innings in his two starts against the divisional rivals this season.

Grab the under for the full game and first five innings as this one stays low-scoring and tight throughout. Let’s count on deGrom and Brown to set the tone early and often.

Boston Red Sox vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Predictions: Saturday, September 6th

Despite losing last night, the Boston Red Sox are still 10-5 over their last 15 games. They’re still in a great position for an AL Wild Card spot heading into today’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Let’s back the road squad to rebound and get back in the win column.

Boston starter Lucas Giolito is pitching very well lately. He owns a 2.27 ERA over his past seven starts and a 2.57 ERA over his past 12 starts. This is an extended run of good outings for the veteran righty. He’s also now allowed fewer than two runs in 10 of his last 15 starts with a 2.26 ERA in this stretch.

Giolito now takes on an Arizona offense that’s struggling vs. right-handers recently. Over the past week in the split, the Diamondbacks have a .248 wOBA (29th in MLB), .211 BA (23rd), and 29.8% strikeout rate (28th). The offense overall has been inconsistent over the past two weeks, too.

Meanwhile, the Red Sox should get to D-backs starter Brandon Pfaadt. The righty has a 5.33 ERA and 1.39 WHIP this season. That includes a rough 7.13 ERA over his past seven starts and a 7.20 ERA over his past four outings.

It doesn’t bode well for Pfaadt, considering his matchup. Boston is crushing right-handers lately with a .379 wOBA and 140 wRC+ in the split over the past week. The Red Sox are also a top-tier offense vs. righties over the past two weeks (.361 wOBA, 128 wRC+).
