Best MLB Stolen Base Picks Today:
Locking in the best stolen base predictions means finding the absolute perfect storm of a high-on-base runner and a weak battery. Here are our top two MLB stolen base picks today for Wednesday, May 27:
Favorite Bets:
David Hamilton, Milwaukee Brewers (+298) – While I don’t typically like facing Cardinals catcher Pedro Pages, who has a 37-percent caught-stealing rate, this is more about Dustin May and his slow-poke delivery. May has allowed five stolen bases on the season, and Hamilton, with his 80-percent success rate on the bases and near-30 sprint-speed score, should have little trouble both getting on base and finding an opportunity to run. He’s got a 10.7-percent walk rate and has eight steals against right-handed pitching, so we’ll roll with him today.
Longshot:
George Springer, Toronto Blue Jays (+550) – The Blue Jays are not an aggressive team on the bases at all. In fact, they rank just 29th in attempts this season. But they also happen to be facing Marlins righty Eury Perez, who has allowed a league-high 17 stolen bases this year, and catchers Liam Hicks and Joe Mack are combining for just a 14-percent caught-stealing rate. Typically, I might have looked at Andres Gimenez for the stolen base today, but that guy is ice-cold at the plate. Meanwhile, Springer has gone 11-for-38 (.289) with five extra-base hits (including three home runs), six RBI, two steals, and five runs scored over his last nine games. So how about we ride the wave until it breaks?
Longer Longshot:
Carson Benge, New York Mets (+800) – The Reds are throwing lefty Andrew Abbott tonight and he's allowed 10 stolen bases this season, second-most of any pitcher on today's slate. Normally I don't love the lefty-on-lefty crime, but Benge owns a .432 OBP against southpaws this season and has three of his nine steals against them. He's also been nice and aggressive on the bases recently with one stolen base and one caught-stealing over his last three games. The Mets need to scratch and claw for every run and considering the Reds catchers have a combined 20-percent caught-stealing rate, we'll take a super longshot chance on the Mets rookie.
