It has been a tumultuous season thus far for fantasy owners dealing with injuries.  That should come as no surprise to anyone because everyone is just as susceptible.  Fortunately it has been a relatively uneventful week with just a couple exceptions of impact players going down with an injury.  So without further adieu, here is the next installment of the walking wounded.

George Springer (OF-HOU)

This is not quite as devastating as the loss of Giancarlo Stanton, but fantasy owners will sorely miss George Springer who was placed on the disabled list with a fractured wrist.  He was hit by a pitcher earlier this week and will now miss up to six weeks.  Springer has thrived in the leadoff spot and was a lock to reach 20/20.  Stash him on your disabled list or bench because he will be a very valuable asset when he is able to return in August.

Sonny Gray (SP-OAK)

For the first time in my history of writing the injury report here at Fantasy Alarm, I am reporting that a player has missed some time due to salmonella.  That’s right, Oakland’s ace pitcher Sonny Gray missed his last start due to salmonella which required hospitalization.  Fortunately he is expected to be fine and should be on track for his next start during Week 14.

Jacoby Ellsbury (OF-NYY)

Fantasy stud Jacoby Ellsbury has been out several weeks with a knee injury and it now looks like his return will be delayed at least until next week.  Ellsbury is on a minor league rehab assignment but still needs to build up endurance.  It will be a huge boost for fantasy GMs to get him back in the lineup, so be patient and hope that he is activated in time for Week 14.

Michael Cuddyer (OF-NYM)

Did you even notice that Michael Cuddyer has missed the last few games with a knee injury?  He has been a complete bust since signing with the Mets and could be headed for a stint on the disabled list if he is not able to play on Friday.  Cuddyer has barely been a viable fantasy option thus far batting .243 with only six home runs and 28 RBI.  Even if he comes back this weekend he will be facing Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke which renders him almost completely useless.

Carlos Beltran (OF-NYY)

Veteran outfielder Carlos Beltran could be headed to the DL after sustaining a rib injury while swinging at a pitch on Wednesday.  He got off to an awful start to the season but bounced back nicely in May and June.  However, at this point in his career Beltran is only a marginal fantasy option so it would not be a significant loss if he is out for a couple weeks.
