It’s another star-studded edition of the injury report as we head towards the end of Week 11.  The good news is that there is a major impact pitcher set to return soon, but the bad news is there are several star outfielders dealing with a variety of maladies.  So without further adieu, here is the next installment of the walking wounded.

Bryce Harper (OF-WAS)

Harper is a repeat visitor to the injury report this week.  He missed some time after getting hit with a pitch in his knee last weekend, but he returned to the lineup after just a couple days.  Now he is dealing with a left hamstring strain which could cost him a game or two as well.  The Nationals do not appear overly concerned at this point so he should avoid a trip to the disabled list.  Daily league players should check back later for a status update and see whether he can return to the lineup on Friday or if he is going to rest for a day or two.

Jose Fernandez (SP-MIA)

We are now just a couple weeks away from the pending return of former NL Rookie of the Year Jose Fernandez.  Fernandez has been dominant in his minor league rehab starts and is on track to join the Marlins in early July.  If you drafted him and have managed to stay afloat in your league, this will be a huge boost to your team akin to making an impact trade.  Fernandez could be a difference-maker in many leagues because he provides elite production in four of the five pitching categories.

Carlos Gomez (OF-MIL)

The Brewers are contemplating placing Gomez on the DL due to a hip injury which kept him out of Thursday’s lineup.  This is not good news for fantasy GM’s who drafted Gomez in the first round expecting elite production in all five categories.  He has been banged up all season and put up merely pedestrian statistics.  If he does go on the disabled list, then you should start exploring some trade options within your league.

Adam Jones (OF-BAL)

The normally dependable and durable Adam Jones missed three games this week with a shoulder injury.  However, he is looking to be back in the lineup on Friday against the Blue Jays.  It had to be frustrating for fantasy owners to watch the Orioles score runs at will while Jones sits on the bench.  Check back in before lineups lock tonight to make sure Jones is in fact returning.

Cole Hamels (SP-PHI)

Hamels is dealing with a right hamstring strain and has been scratched from his start on Friday.  The Phillies do not consider this a significant injury so they plan on having their ace on the mound next week.  This obviously is not helpful for weekly players, but the silver lining is that perhaps he gets two starts next week depending on when Philadelphia plugs him in.

Freddie Freeman (1B-ATL)

Freeman is dealing with a right wrist injury which cost him Thursday’s game.  He indicated he received an injection for it on Wednesday, but right now we don’t know much about the nature or extent of the injury.  You will need to monitor his status throughout the day to see whether he is back in the lineup on Friday.  Freeman is a solid fantasy option despite being the Braves only legitimate source of power in the middle of their lineup.  Keep close tabs on this one.

Corey Dickerson (OF-COL)

The Rockies put Dickerson back on the DL after his plantar fasciitis flared up again earlier this week.  This is going to be a chronic problem for Dickerson until he can have it surgically repaired.  That doesn’t seem likely until the offseason.  Dickerson owners are going to remain perpetually frustrated because he will likely remain sidelined for several weeks and will always be at risk for re-aggravating the injury.

Yordano Ventura (SP-KC)

The Royals placed Ventura on disabled list due to ulnar neuritis.  The move was made retroactive to June 13 as he is dealing with irritation of a nerve in his right hand.  Ventura has had a myriad of injuries all season and has been a major disappointment for fantasy GMs.  He is worth stashing for now unless you have an extremely deep pitching staff with limited roster flexibility.

Wil Myers (OF-SD)

It has been another lost season for the former top prospect.  Myers underwent surgery to remove a bone spur in his wrist and will likely be out until sometime in August.  He has had a litany of wrist injuries in his short career, so it will be interesting to see how his power develops as he gets older.  Stash Myers on your bench or DL if you have the flexibility.  Otherwise, he can be dropped in redraft leagues if you need the roster space.

Daniel Murphy (2B/3B-NYM)

Murphy is set to be activated from the disabled list on Tuesday when the Mets are in Milwaukee.  Murphy is what he is at this point in his career.  He always produces a solid batting average, scores a bunch of runs and will sneak in a few stolen bases.  The value he brings to the table is his positional flexibility because he qualifies at both second base and third base.  He is a decent infield option in Roto leagues that reward batting average as opposed to OBP or slugging.
