Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times hears the Rays have talked about a reunion with free agent right-hander Chris Archer.
Archer, famously, was the Pirates' return in the deal that brought the Rays cornerstones Austin Meadows and Tyler Glasnow and prospect Shane Baz. The right-hander didn't pitch in 2020 after undergoing thoracic outlet surgery. He posted a 5.19 ERA in 2019 with the Bucs and hasn't put up an ERA under 4.00 since 2015, surprisingly, but he did his best work with the Rays and would presumably be affordable given his recent injuries and ineffectiveness. The Pirates have also discussed bringing Archer back at a reduced rate. Dec 12 8:59 am (EST)
