PGA DFS Coverage for the Sentry Tournament of Champions

Happy New Year! Welcome back to another year of PGA DFS coverage on Fantasy Alarm. I’m Drew Phelps and I’ll be your guide on this journey to making some money this season. You will typically see three articles come out each week. First, it’ll be this article, the preview on Tuesdays. Then on Wednesdays will come the playbook and example lineups. This weekend for the Sentry Tournament of Champions at Kapalua you will only see the examples come out with a few of my favorite plays as it is a small field event. For the 25th year, the beautiful island of Maui makes a fantastic backdrop for the PGA Tour’s first tournament of the 2023 portion of the season.

The Field: Sentry Tournament of Champions

After a lot of lackluster fields during the fall portion of the 2022-2023 season, we’ve got an A list of players to kick things off. You’ve got world number two and reigning Masters champion Scottie Scheffler, the 2021 FedEx Champ and Player of the Year Patrick Cantlay, Jon Rahm, Xander Schauffele, and returning from injury, Will Zalatoris. You will find fantastic values in DFS because of the field strength but know that everyone else will see those values as well. You should really look for players who will be off the radar this weekend to help differentiate yourself.

The Courses: Plantation Course at Kapalua

This course was renovated in 2019 by the original designers Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore. It is now the only par 73 on the PGA Tour schedule. The course nearly reaches 7,600 yards with huge elevation changes throughout the course. When you are dealing with an island course, the first thing you have to take into account is the wind. When the winds are down like they were last year, you see Cameron Smith shoot a record-breaking 34 under par for the tournament.

The Weather: Maui, Hawaii

The tournament is taking place on the beautiful island of Maui.  It’s known for some of the best beaches in the world. We should see typical fantastic weather with temperatures in the high-70s. The only thing that matters for this weekend and this event is the wind. The current forecast is calling for 20 mph winds on Thursday but the rest of the weekend looks to be extremely calm. If these players can get through day one with solid scores, it should be smooth sailing from there. There is no cut, so that’s one less thing these players have to worry about. They’ll get to enjoy the full weekend in Hawaii with their family.

How To Watch the Sentry Tournament of Champions

You will get some prime time golf this weekend. The tournament is being played in Hawaii which means we have to deal with time zones. You will see coverage on Thursday and Friday from 6-10pm ET on the Golf Channel. Then over the weekend, the coverage will flip flop between NBC and the Golf Channel. Saturday and Sunday will air from 4-6pm ET on NBC and 6-8pm ET on Golf Channel.

Coverage from Fantasy Alarm

There will be no PGA DFS Playbook this weekend but you will see the PGA DFS Example Lineups come out on Wednesday at 12pm ET. That article will contain more details about this tournament, a few of my favorite targets for this weekend, and my example lineups. We also help you with DFS lineup construction with our usual tools like our PGA DFS Lineup Generator and a run of PGA DFS projections.

As always, I wish you nothing but the best of luck in your games.
