PGA DFS Coverage for the Wells Fargo Championship 

The PGA Tour heads back to the United States after a fantastic event in Mexico over the weekend.  Congrats to Tony Finau on winning his second event of the 2022-2023 season and the six of his career.  This week the players travel to Charlotte, North Carolina for the Wells Fargo Championship.  Quail Hollow has hosted this event primarily since 2003 along with the 2017 PGA Championship which Justin Thomas won and the 2022 President’s Cup which the Americans dominated.  Max Homa won the 2022 edition played at TPC Avenel just outside Washington D.C. while Quail was being prepped for the Presidents Cup.  This is another designated event on the PGA Tour calendar which means the cream of the crop will be attending.  It will be a major quality field on a major quality course which should lead to fantastic action in the tar heel state this weekend.        

 

The Field: Wells Fargo Championship   

As stated above, we’ve got a fantastic field teeing it up in Charlotte this weekend.  It is a designated event which means Top 20 PIP (Player Impact Program) players are required to play at this event.  Rory McIlory will participate for the first time since his awful performance at the Masters.  That’s no surprise being that he’s won this event three times and has another three Top 5 finishes.  Rory owns Quail Hollow.  You will also see Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Max Homa, Jordan Spieth and last week’s winner Tony Finau play at Quail Hollow.  Only 10 of the eligible Top 50 players in the world are not participating at the Wells Fargo.  

The Course: Quail Hollow Club

We saw this course undertake a major overhaul before the playing of the 2017 PGA Championship.  It was changed to a Par 71 and now stretches out over 7,500 yards.  The course has just three Par 5’s but all of them are reachable in two and two of the Par 4’s are drivable for these players.  Golfers must take advantage of these holes if they want any chance of contending over the weekend.  There are also three over 200 yards Par 3’s and one of which actually tips at 250.  It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Rory has owned this course being that driving the golf ball well on this course is vital to success.   

The Weather: Charlotte, North Carolina

It’s looking like we’ll have good weather down on tobacco road this weekend for the Wells Fargo.  The forecast on Thursday and Friday is calling for partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the low 70s.  As for the weekend, there is a 50 percent chance of rain in the afternoon and overnight on Saturday but should clear up in the morning for the final round on Sunday.    

How To Watch the Wells Fargo Championship

The Wells Fargo Championship will air exclusively on the Golf Channel on Thursday and Friday between 2-6pm ET.  The weekend coverage will begin on Golf Channel from 1-3pm ET and then move over to CBS from 3-6pm ET.
