Colorado Avalanche at St. Louis Blues

The Captain

We have some solid options on both teams for the captain spot.

Nathan MacKinnon is the most obvious play, which means he is likely to be the most used as well, but with that also comes the highest upside. He had a hat-trick in his last game and six shots on goal, the only issue you will have with MacKinnon is he is going to make it tough to build out the rest of your roster, so you may choose to use him in a utility spot instead, but he should be played today.

What we learned from the two games that were played in St.Louis already is that Nazem Kadri seemingly owns the city. He had six points, including four goals in the two previous games so I wouldn’t dismiss him tonight.

Vladimir Tarasenko is the most likely of all of the Blues players to shoot the puck in volume, and that also makes him the most likely to score multiple goals. He has been hit-or-miss in the playoffs so far but the upside is definitely there.

The Rest

We haven’t really seen that big game from Cale Makar in this series where he takes a game over, but today could be that game, and if not we are seeing him get points and put shots on goal so he could still get to value even if he doesn’t completely blow up.

Devon Toews continues to get to value in different ways. He had four blocked shots in the last game, and he has given us games with points and shots as well so he provides a solid floor with some upside.

Mikko Rantanen doesn’t get the headlines, but he has a point in every game in this series and has been as consistent as any player in the playoffs so far.

While I would be shocked if we got another six-shot, two-goal performance from Robert Thomas tonight, if the Blues can’t pull out the win tonight he is likely to find himself lonely at 3 am.

Justin Faulk continues to get the bulk of the power play time for the Blues, and he has a solid floor with blocked shots, and shots on goal even when he isn’t getting points.

The play with Nick Leddy is that he is coming off a three-point game, and he has had some good nights in these playoffs, you just have to be aware that he has no floor from his peripherals.

With the Avs missing the opportunity to close out the series on home ice, I would look for them to put a lot of shots on goal in this game. With that, we get upside from Ville Husso who could hit the save bonuses and be valuable even if the Blues lose.
