NHL DFS Picks, Projections, Lineups & Stacks Today: Saturday Playbook

Published: Mar 08, 2025
Welcome to another NHL DFS Playbook! We have a small six-game Saturday slate, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have a lot of options to choose from.
With the Trade Deadline behind us, the players can focus on the games remaining this season and what they need to play for. Some are pushing to help their team make the playoffs, while others try to hold onto a job in the league.
Let’s dive into the action and see which skaters and goalies we need to keep an eye on.
NHL Pick 'Em At Sleeper Today
Before we get into DFS, let’s make some pick’em picks for the night over on Sleeper. There are lots of ways we try to fill your wallet over here at Fantasy Alarm and this is just another option.
Sleeper NHL Picks, Saturday, March 8th:
- Sam Reinhart O/2.5 SOG
- Filip Forsberg O/1.5 P
- Lane Hutson O/0.5 A
Sam Reinhart isn’t on the main slate tonight because Florida plays Buffalo at 6:00PM ET, but that doesn’t mean we are just going to ignore his shot total. Since Tkachuk has been out of the lineup, Reinhart has been shooting more, but his total once again sits at 2.5 and we need to take advantage of it. The Sabres are a mess and they are going to give up so many scoring chances today, so we’ll gladly take our chances with him.
The Blackhawks are playing their second game in as many nights and Spender Knight is getting the night off. He’s been really good since coming over from Florida, but the Blackhawks are still a terrible hockey team, even more so on the road. I know it’s been a tough year for Nashville, but Filip Forsberg has 41 points in 31 home games and is coming off a two-goal performance against Seattle. Two points might seem like a lot, but he is very capable of hitting that number in the first period alone.
Lane Hutson is going to win Rookie of the Year and I won’t let anyone say otherwise. The Kid has 45 assists in 62 games this season and nine in the last ten. He’s playing a ton of minutes and is finding a way to get on the scoresheet. I don’t love his matchup against Calgary, but Montreal has been scoring goals of late and Hutson is a reason for that.
SALARY CAP DFS
Goalie Of The Day: Darcy Kuemper - LAK
The Kings are facing the Blues for the second time in three days. Los Angeles hasn’t been very good of late, but Darcy Kuemper has been nothing short of excellent at home, posting a 10-1-2 record. He took the OT loss last game, but I expect him and the gang to rebound and put on a clinic against a below-average opponent.
Honourable Mention: Jakub Dobes - MTL
Jakub Dobes has come back down to earth since his red-hot start to his NHL career, but this is a really good spot for him. Montreal is playing some very good hockey and Dobes has a 5-1-0 record on the road with a 1.81 GAA and a .935 SV%. It’s a small sample size, but those numbers coupled with the fact that he is $6500 on DraftKings is enough to grab my attention. He’s the best option in a GPP.
Player Of The Day: Filip Forsberg - NSH
For all the reasons mentioned earlier, Filips Forsberg is the best bang for your buck. He’s expensive, but the sky's the limit for him against Chicago, who are playing the tail end of a back-to-back. Expect his ownership to be high, but sometimes, you have to eat the chalk in cash games or fear being left behind.
Honorable Mention: Nathan MacKinnon - COL
I know the Toronto Maple Leafs are better than the San Jose Sharks, but the performance that Cale Makar and Nathan MacKinnon put on Thursday night was one for the ages. MacKinnon finished with five points and eight shots on goal, and while I don’t think he’s going to repeat that tonight, I do think he will be able to hit value.
Value Play Of The Day: Jake Walman - EDM
This one is specifically for the folks playing over on DK. Jake Walman was moved to Edmonton from San Jose and apparently, he’s just the worst now. How bad? We’ll DK has him at $2500. It’s a mistake, but one that we will take and move on. He’s going to jump right into the fire against a very good Dallas team and with Mattias Ekholm still out of the lineup, Walman has a great chance to hit value without needing to register a point.
Honorable Mention: Klim Kostin - SJ
We are going right back to the bottom of the barrel with Klim Kostin. San Jose isn’t a great team, but let’s not pretend like the Islanders are any better. Kostin isn’t an elite forward by any means, but he is expected to play on the second line with Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith, the two best players on the team. If he can find a way to get on the scoresheet, that would be more than enough to hit value.
Stack Of The Day - COL PP1 (Nathan MacKinnon - Martin Necas - Cale Makar)
Since moving Mikko Rantanen, the Colorado Avalanche’s power play has been operating at 38.9%. That is insanity! The Leafs are good on the penalty kill so this might not be the best matchup, but the upside is there and you might be able to get all three at reasonable ownership. Let’s see if we can hit gold with this power play combination.
