Welcome to the Conference Championship Sunday edition of the Fantasy Alarm NFL Injury Report. The information contained in this article is accurate as per Thursday’s practices. While players who have questionable tags are often able to play, please continue to monitor their progress as game times approach. Fantasy Alarm will continue to post updated individual player news as it happens.
Patrick Mahomes , QB, Chiefs (Toe/Concussion protocol)
According to Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, Mahomes took all of the snaps in Wednesday’s practice and the majority of starter reps at Thursday’s team practice. Wednesday’s practice was more of a walk through but on Thursday Mahomes was seen stretching, performing individual drills, and making throws while wearing a helmet. Mahomes was listed as a limited participant on both Wednesday and Thursday. Based on the number of reps Mahomes has been taking, it seems that the Chiefs think there’s a good chance that he’ll be cleared to play for Sunday’s game against the Bills. However, Mahomes must be cleared by an independent neurologist before he can be removed from the league’s concussion protocol. According to reporters who saw part of Thursday’s practice, Mahomes was able to move around and showed no immediate negative effects from the left big toe injury that he suffered last week. Overall Mahomes seems to be trending in the right direction and according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport he has no concussion-related symptoms, but his progress should be monitored carefully as we get closer to game time.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB, Chiefs (Ankle/Hip)
Edwards-Helaire logged limited practices on Wednesday and Thursday. The fact that he’s practicing is a good sign. However, he had a questionable injury designation leading up to his matchup against the Browns last week and ended up missing his fourth consecutive game. Edwards-Helaire’s status needs to be monitored very carefully this week.
Le’Veon Bell, RB, Chiefs (Knee)
According to Reid, Bell’s knee swelled after Wednesday’s practice and caused him to be held out of Thursday’s practice. If Bell is unable to play this Sunday, and if Edwards-Helaire is either out or on a snap count against the Bills this weekend, Darrel Williams could be an intriguing DFS option.
Jamaal Williams , RB, Packers (Ankle)
Williams was a limited participant at the Packers’ Wednesday and Thursday practices. As we mentioned in our injury preview article earlier this week, the Packers have been rotating their RB’s in and out of late. If Williams is out this week, A.J. Dillon could end up being a sneaky play in DFS but then again, Dillon is dealing with his own injury concerns this week.
A.J. Dillon, RB, Packers (Quad)
Dillion was a limited participant in the Packers’ Wednesday and Thursday practices but unless he aggravates his quad injury he seems to be on track to play. If Dillon does play he likely won’t have a big role unless the aforementioned Jamaal Williams (ankle) is inactive. In any case, Packers RB’s are going to have an uphill climb against the Buccaneers’ stellar run defense.
Ronald Jones , RB, Buccaneers (Quad/Finger)
Earlier this week Jones, who looked pretty explosive against the Saints last week, said he’s “feeling better than last week”. He’s logged limited practices on Wednesday and Thursday and as this article is being written, hasn’t had any setbacks thus far. Watch his progress, but it looks as if he’ll play this week.
Allen Lazard , WR, Packers (Wrist/Back)
Lazard was a limited participant at the Packers’ Wednesday and Thursday practices. His injuries don’t appear to be anything serious, but his progress should be monitored as game time approaches.
Chris Godwin , WR, Buccaneers (Quad)
Godwin was a limited participant at the Bucs’ Wednesday and Thursday practices. He has been dealing with nagging injuries over the past couple of weeks but has been able to suit up come game time. Expect him to play this Sunday.
Mike Evans , WR, Buccaneers (Knee)
Evans was a limited participant at the Bucs’ Wednesday and Thursday practices. He has been dealing with a knee injury over the past couple of weeks but he has not missed any playing time. Expect him to play this week.
Sammy Watkins , WR, Chiefs (Calf)
Watkins was a limited participant in the Chiefs’ Wednesday and Thursday practices. That’s a good sign since he was unable to practice all of last week and was inactive against the Browns this past Sunday.
Antonio Brown , WR, Buccaneers (Knee)
An MRI failed to show any indication that Brown had suffered a major knee injury, but he was unable to practice on Wednesday or Thursday. Bruce Arians, who called him day-to-day earlier this week, said that Brown wouldn’t need to practice in order to play. According to Arians, he will be a game time decision. Should Brown be sidelined expect Scott Miller and Tyler Johnson to see a slight uptick in playing time this week.
Stefon Diggs , WR, Bills (Oblique)
Diggs was a limited participant at the Bills’ Wednesday and Thursday practices. He has been dealing with a nagging oblique injury for the past two weeks but has not missed any playing time. The Bills are likely managing Diggs’ practice reps in an effort to prevent him from aggravating his injury. Watch his progress, but he’s likely to play on Sunday.
Cole Beasley , WR, Bills (Knee)
Beasley had been limited in practices over the past two weeks but like Diggs, never actually missed any playing time. He was not on the Bills’ injury report on Wednesday, but was limited in practice on Thursday. Based on his recent history he’s likely to play on Sunday but his status should still be monitored.
Gabriel Davis, WR, Bills (Ankle)
Davis did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday this week. That is not a good sign. Watch his Friday practice status as well as his progress as game time approaches.
Mason Crosby , K, Packers (Shoulder)
Crosby was limited at the Packers’ Wednesday and Thursday practices.
