Let's dive into the top MLB player picks on Underdog Fantasy for Sunday, August 6th..
Bryce Harper, Philadelphia Phillies - HIGHER than 1.5 Total Bases
Harper has a .911 OPS at home this season, and an .823 OPS against right-handed pitching. He’s hit safely in 11 of his last 13 games, posting a .321/.400/.491 slash line with five multi-hit efforts and five extra-base hits. He has surpassed this line in four of five games this month and now this afternoon, he gets to face Zack Greinke, who has allowed a 7.40 ERA, .278 BAA, and .525 SLG on the road this year. Furthermore, left-handed hitters have posted a .321/.353/.558 slash line against him. Greinke has served up 22 earned runs and seven home runs (24 hits allowed) over his last four road starts, covering 19.1 IP. Harper is in a great spot to continue his strong start to the month of August.
Ryan Mountcastle, Baltimore Orioles - HIGHER than 1.5 Total Bases
Jose Quintana has been very steady for the Mets since returning to the mound, but all 18 hits he’s allowed over his three starts have come at the hands of right-handed bats. Even dating back to last year, the hitters who had any success against Quintana were of the right-handed variety (.251/.304/.357). It’s no secret that Mountcastle is a southpaw slayer, as seen by his .350 batting average, .680 SLG, 1.067 OPS, .330 ISO, and 43 percent hard hit rate. He’s in the midst of an eight game streak, and a run where he’s hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games, slashing an astounding .465/.519/.721. He may only have two or more total bases in three of his last five games, but he’s done so in eight of his last 11 games.
Brandon Woodruff, Milwaukee Brewers - LOWER than 1.5 Walks Allowed
Woodruff is making his first big league start since April 7, and he draws a good matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Woodruff has always displayed great command through his big league career, posting a sub-seven percent walk rate in each of the four seasons prior to 2023. He made three rehab starts down in the minors, and he only walked two batters across 11.2 IP, working up to 72 pitches in his most recent outing. The Brewers likely let him throw up to 85 pitches this afternoon, and he faces a Pittsburgh team that has been league average since July 1 in terms of walk rate against right-handed pitching. There’s a lot of bad BvP numbers in this Pittsburgh lineup against Woodruff, and for Woodruff’s career, he has a minuscule 5.3 percent walk rate when pitching at home.
