MLB Underdog Top Picks April 6

Ronald Acuna Jr., Atlanta Braves – OVER 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI

First off, there is the potential for rain showers during tonight’s Braves game. Keep that in mind when backing any Underdog props and check out the MLB weather report in the meantime. If this matchup vs. the San Diego Padres is played as normal, though, Ronald Acuna Jr. is in a great spot to total more than 1.5 combined hits, runs, and RBI. In case you haven’t noticed, the Braves are hot at the plate to begin this season and it starts with Acuna in the leadoff spot. The Atlanta star is batting .370 with 10 hits, seven runs, and four RBI across six games thus far. Acuna has totaled at least 1.5 hits+runs+RBI in all but one game this year and he’s coming off of three straight multi-hit contests. Tonight, Acuna and the Braves face Padres lefty Blake Snell, who allowed six hits and three runs in his first 2023 start. Atlanta has its home opener tonight and Acuna should be amped to keep it going at the plate.

Dustin May, Los Angeles Dodgers – UNDER 5.0 Strikeouts

Picking against a pitcher of Dustin May’s caliber is definitely a risk. Still, the numbers and trends point to the Dodgers righty going under his strikeout prop tonight. May totaled only four strikeouts in his start of the 2023 season, which came against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Well, now he has to face the same lineup again here and the D-backs hitters should have familiarity with May’s stuff. Plus, Arizona has just an 18.2% K rate vs. right-handed pitchers so far this season (7th-best in MLB). Meanwhile, May actually had less than five strikeouts in four of his six starts last year after returning from injury. One of those outings came against the Diamondbacks when he punched out four and gave up five runs. May’s K rate dropped to 22.8% in 2022, down from 37.6% the season prior.
