💎 PITCHING COACH
Top Tier
Yoshinobu Yamamoto (LAD) | vs MIA
Yamamoto got another quality starting his last outing giving up 3 runs over 7 innings and striking out 7, and that was probably his worst outing of the year. He has such a high floor and while we haven’t seen the 12-strikeout game like you have gotten from Cease twice this year he still has basically the same ceiling. At his price against the Marlins, he is easily my favorite pitcher on today’s slate.
Dylan Cease (TOR) | vs BOS
Dylan Cease has two different 12-strikeout games already this season. He has been fantastic so far this season, with his biggest issue being longevity as he has only made it through 6 innings once. I think he can continue to pile strikeouts against the reeling Boston Red Sox, but Cease always does carry some blowup potential.
Max Fried (NYY) | vs TEX
While Fried doesn’t have the strikeout upside that Yamamoto and Cease bring, he is still elite. He still got 9 strikeouts in his last outing throwing 8 shutout innings against the Red Sox and only allowing 3 hits. He has gone 8 innings twice already and 7 another time. You can pay up and take his stability with one of the other high strikeout guys to have a pretty awesome pitching duo today.
Value Plays
Connor Prielipp (MIN) | vs SEA
Prielipp looked solid in his first outing striking out 6 against the Mets over 4 innings. I think he can give us a similar outing against the Mariners and at this price I like taking a shot on him today.
Randy Vasquez (SDP) | vs CHC
Randy Vasquez has been great so far this season. He is coming off a 7-inning shutout in Colorado with 5 strikeouts and also has two different 8 strikeout games this year. The Cubs are a tough opponent, but I think he can continue his quality pitching and put up another decent line at a reasonable price.
💎 HITTING COACH
Elite Bats
Vladimir Guerrero (1B, TOR) | vs BOS
Ranger Suarez has been a little up and down so far this season and I like the Blue Jays today facing him. Vlad is their top bat and one of my favorite bats of the day in this matchup.
Brandon Lowe (2B, PIT) | vs STL
Brandon Lowe has been providing great power in this quickly improving Pirates lineup with 7 homers already this season. They get to face Dustin May today who has not looked great so far and I think they could score quite a few runs against them today.
Byron Buxton (OF, MIN) | vs SEA
Luis Castillo concerns me away from Seattle. While the Twins lineup isn’t very scary, Byron Buxton is. He isn’t off to the strongest start only batting .229 but he still has power in that bat and I think we will start to see more from him, and I like him in this matchup.
Shohei Ohtani (1B/OF, LAD) | vs MIA
It is Ohtani. Chris Paddack has a 6.38 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP so we can’t expect him to do great having to face the Dodgers and if you can afford it you should probably be putting Ohtani into your lineup.
Value Bats (Salary Savers)
- Willson Contreras (1B, BOS): If you want to fade Cease, I like Contreras as a bat to potentially be able to get to him today.
- Konnor Griffin (SS, PIT): I already love the Pirates today and we finally saw a homer from Griffin, I think we see his price start to climb quickly.
- Kazuma Okamoto (3B, TOR): A cheaper part of the Blue Jays lineup that I like against Ranger Suarez Today.
- Ceddanne Rafaela (OF, BOS): One of the lone bright spots amongst the Red Sox to start the season is a good cheap option to go for if you aren’t starting Cease.
🏗️ THE STACKING BLUEPRINT
Primary Stack: Toronto Blue Jays
Targets: Clement, Guerrero, Okamoto, Varsho, Schneider
Opponent: Boston Red Sox | TOR 4.1 implied
Ranger Suarez has had some good starts this season and some bad. I think the Blue Jays are going to be a tough lineup for him and think we see him struggle a bit again today.
Primary Stack: Los Angeles Dodgers
Targets: Ohtani, Freeman, Smith, Tucker, Muncy
Opponent: Miami Marlins| LAD 5.6 implied
The Dodgers are always a good stack but especially against Chris Paddack today they are a great lineup to go after to ensure you are scoring some points.
Contrarian Stack: Pittsburgh Pirates
Targets: Cruz, Lowe, Reynolds, O’Hearn, Griffin
Opponent: St. Louis Cardinals | PIT 4.6 implied
Dustin May has continued to struggle to start the season, and the Pirates have been a a much better offense so far to star the year. I think we could see them score plenty of runs in this matchup today.
📈 THE LEVERAGE REPORT (GAME THEORY)
The Chalk (Popular) | The Pivot (Low Owned) | The Winning Logic |
|---|---|---|
| Cease (highly owned) | Yamamoto (lower-owned) | Cease as the top pitcher will get a lot of attention, but I would rather go to Yamamoto who is still highly owned, but less than Cease and cheaper. |
| Fried (highly owned) | Prielipp (low-owned) | You can go with the stability of Fried, but you could also save some money and take the potential upside with Prielipp in his second start. |
| LAD Chalk Stack | PIT Stack (lower-owned) | The Dodgers are a great stack today, but the Pirates could score just as many runs and are much cheaper. |
