Below are stacks to consider for Sunday’s MLB DFS action
The Chalk
Colorado Rockies
In addition to the obvious stack appeal of Coors Field, the Rockies are one of only four teams with something left to play for today as they’re tied with the Dodgers for the NL West lead. Their game against the Nationals has an over/under of 11, which is easily the highest of the day, and the Rox are a -175 favorite.
Right-hander Erik Fedde will start for Washington. Fedde has traditional splits and has really struggled against left-handed hitters this season. Colorado has three left-handed hitters in the lineup today who have all been above average with the platoon advantage this season, Charlie Blackmon , David Dahl and Carlos González , who will hit 1-3-6 in the order. Right-handers Trevor Story and Nolan Arenado will be sandwiched between the lefties. Story has been above average against same-handed pitching this season, and Arenado has been just below average.
Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers should be chalky as well as they’re a -270-home favorite against the Tigers. Their ballpark is hitter-friendly, and so is Detroit’s starting pitcher, Spencer Turnbull . Turnbull has made three major league appearances, two starts, and has a 5.73 ERA in 11 innings. It’s a limited sample, but Turnbull hasn’t shown much of a split, so Brewers from both sides are in play.
Christian Yelich is the most obvious guy to roster, and he has a 169 wRC+ vs. RHP this season. Following Yelich as the best hitters on the team against righties ae lefty Travis Shaw and right-hander Jesus Aguilar , who will hit 4-5 in the order behind Yelich in the two-hole. You might skip Ryan Brain in the three-spot as he’s struggled against righties this year. But lead off hitter Lorenzo Cain and six-hole hitter Mike Moustakas are both in play as well.
Not the Chalk
Arizona Diamondbacks
For a contrarian option, let’s go away from the teams with something left to play for. The D’Backs are a slight favorite on the road in San Diego, but the game only has an over/under of 7.5, so they’re certainly not chalky. Left-hander Joey Lucchesi will start for the Padres. Lucchesi has struggled of late with a 7.23 ERA in his last four starts.
Arizona’s three best hitters in the lineup today against left-handed pitching are Paul Goldschmidt , Ketel Marte and Nick Ahmed . Those three guys will hit 1-3-5 in the order today. In their careers, that trio has combined to go 15-for-30 against Lucchesi with six-extra base hits, including four home runs. Right-handers Chris Owings and A.J. Pollock will hit second and sixth, respectively, so they could also be included in that stack.
