Investing Heavily

Zack Grienke, LAD - It has hard to ignore a guy who has not given up a run in his last 5 starts.  It is tough to separate all of the studs on the mound on Sunday but the price tag and recent hot streak gives the nod to Grienke.  The only concern is facing Max Scherzer so on a site like FanDuel you may go elsewhere.

Jake Arrieta, CHC - Compared to all the other high priced studs on the mound, Arrieta gets to take on the weakest offense of the bunch in Atlanta.  He has given up only 5 runs combined in last 5 starts along a WHIP at 0.99 for the year.

Chris Archer, TB - Archer is a great option even pitching in Toronto.  He has faced them 3 times this year and only given up 1 earned run along with 25 strikeouts.  In 168 AB’s, he has only given up a .545 OPS to Toronto hitters..

Moderately Priced

Cole Hamels, PHI - On most days Hamels would not fall into this category but with so many high priced pitchers and his recent blow-up in San Francisco, it does today.  The Miami offense has fallen off dramatically since Giancarlo Stanton went down.  Hamels biggest obstacle will be can his offense generating a few runs to get him a win.

Shelby Miller, ATL - The strikeouts have been there the last 3 outings with Miller totaling 25 in those games.  Chicago’s offense has been struggling to put up runs on a regular basis so he should be able to rack up 7 or 8 strikeouts along with giving up less than 2 runs.  The key to a good game is limit the damage by the top of the Cubs order.  The bottom usually goes down quite easily.

Middle Class

Dan Haren, MIA - The Phillies continue to struggle and are the the worst hitting team in MLB vs right handed pitching.  Haren has always struggled with giving up the long ball but fortunately for him the Phillies have very little power.  He has given up just 2 runs in his last 2 starts.

Yovani Gallardo, Tex - Quietly has only give up 2 runs or less in 9 of his last 10 starts.  Any pitcher facing Houston always has some added strikeout potential which is good for Gallardo since those have been lacking despite his nice recent run.

Bargain Basement

Justin Verlander, DET -  He has really struggled over the past 2 seasons or so but hard to believe that he is this cheap.  Verlander was strong in his last outing only giving up 1 run in 7 2/3 with 6 strikeouts.  Verlander is a shell of his former self but still has some idea how to pitch so the price tag makes an interesting GPP play.

Tim Cooney, STL - Has not been able to pitch deep into games but provides decent strikeout rate and against the Mets who have been awful on offense in particular on the road.  Cooney could pay huge dividends if he can find a way to go 6 or 7 innings.

Danny Duffy, KC - The White Sox are the worst team in the league versus left handed pitching by a decent margin.  Duffy does have to deal with going against Chris Sale which makes the win a struggle but his price tag will help you use plenty of high quality bats in tournaments.
