While there are a few lower-priced pitchers I am looking to use in my GPP play today, this slate has all the earmarks of paying up for pitching in cash games. There are too many aces with too many strong match-ups available which means, if you don’t use them, you really need to hit with your starters to just keep pace. Here’s a look at the data and here’s a list of hurlers I am favoring for Tuesday.

Clayton Kershaw, LAD – While the Marlins have hit lefties well this season, they’re still fanning at nearly 22-percent against them. Kershaw should rack up enough strikeouts to make him worth the price tag.

Max Scherzer, WAS – He’s already taken down these Phillies this season and averaged a strikeout per inning against them. We should see more of the same.

Dallas Keuchel, HOU – I’m a believer in the ground-ball specialist and look at the Mariners’ 50.3-percent ground ball rate against southpaws this season as well as their near 20-percent strikeout rate. He’s had his struggles and the price is a little high considering, but that’s what had me shy away from Chris Archer yesterday.

David Price, BOS – The fact that his price on FanDuel is proportionally lower than on the other two sites makes me a little nervous, but it’s the Braves, for crying out loud. A .235 wOBA and 23.7-percent strikeout rate against southpaws leads me to using Price heavily today.

Johnny Cueto, SF – Some tough BvP numbers against Matt Kemp and, believe it or not, Jon Jay, but overall, the Padres are posting a .259 wOBA with almost a 25-percent strikeout rate against right-handers this year. They’re also averaging fewer than three runs per game over their last six.

Edinson Volquez, KC -- Thanks to Albert Pujols, I was wrong about Ian Kennedy yesterday and now I’m going back to the well again despite the BvP numbers between Volquez and Price Albert. I just don’t see the Halos streaking in the win column when they have a .257 wOBA against righties and just a .277 wOBA over their last seven days.

Vincent Velasquez, PHI – He’s going to have to outduel Scherzer to get the win and get through lefties Bryce Harper and Daniel Murphy in the middle of the order. But the strikeout potential for Velasquez is immense.

Ubaldo Jimenez, BAL – The Rays 28.3-percent strikeout rate against right-handers is crazy awful and Jimenez’ 2.67 GB/FB always makes him enticing. Aside from Dickerson, who does have some nice pop, there aren’t any lefty bats on the Rays for me to worry enough about Jimenez’ wOBA splits against LHH.

Kyle Hendricks, CHC – Another heavy ground ball rate matching up with the Brewers’ 46.5 GB% against righties immediately lights me up. Add in Milwaukee’s 25.7-percent strikeout rate and an unusually low 87 wRC+ against right-handers and I’ll throw Hendricks into some tournament play today.
