Davis Martin Chalkboard MLB Pick: Over 4.5 Strikeouts
Two matchups against the Angels of late have made his strikeout totals look great of late, but don’t be fooled. Martin has been good in this department all season long. He’s refined his pitch mix a bit, resulting in his strikeout rate sitting at 25.4 this season, after it sat at just 17.3% in 2025. We love strikeout totals for guys who have an elite swing-and-miss pitch, and Martin has that, as his slider has posted a 59.2% whiff rate and 50.8% chase rate this season.
While the matchup may not be against the Angels, he does get a Seattle team that has the second-highest strikeout rate on the year against RHP, trailing only the, you guessed it, Los Angeles Angels! Furthermore, the Mariners’ bats have had holes in them of late, as they have the second-highest strikeout rate in baseball over the last two weeks at 26.1%!
Nick Kurtz Chalkboard MLB Pick: Over 1.5 Total Bases
UPDATE: Bassitt will work in bulk relief, with lefty Keegan Akin serving as the opener. Still like Kurtz, who should get multiple ABs versus Bassitt.
Kurtz has recorded three multi-hit games in his last four, and during his current 7-game hit streak, he’s slashing .367/.424/.500! He’s posted a .977 OPS and .242 ISO against right-handed pitching this season, and he’s actually posted a higher OPS and ISO on the road than he has at home this season. Well, on Sunday, he’s on the road, against a right-hander, with some wind blowing out to right field…
Chris Bassitt will pitch for Baltimore on Sunday, and while he’s been better at home (3.45 ERA, 2.94 WHIP) than on the road (8.27 ERA, 7.29 FIP), he’s struggled everywhere with left-handed hitters. On the season, left-handed hitters have posted a .380 AVG, .563 SLG, .458 wOBA, and 34.9% hard contact rate against Bassitt. In terms of the hard contact he’s allowed, for a frame of comparison, righties only have a 21.6% hard contact rate against him.
Bassitt’s issues with left-handed hitters are well-documented, and Kurtz is heating up!
