Miami Marlins vs. Atlanta Braves Predictions: Thursday, August 7th
The Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves are heading in opposite directions as the divisional foes start up their series tonight. The Marlins are now 12-6 since the All-Star break and 31-16 since June 22nd. Meanwhile, the Braves are 5-13 in the second half and 10-25 over their last 35 contests.Â
These NL East rivals begin a rare five-game series on Thursday, thanks to a makeup game and doubleheader on Saturday. The visiting Marlins are favored tonight, and that’s the direction we’re going. Miami has the starting pitching edge and the better offense to trust right now.Â
Marlins starter Eury Perez is on a roll right now, with a 1.06 ERA over his last 6 starts. He also owns a strong 2.70 ERA and 2.79 FIP across 10 starts overall this season. The right-hander boasts some impressive advanced stats, headlined by a .194 xBA (97th percentile), 26.0% strikeout rate (76th), and 6.4% barrel rate (79th).Â
Perez has really found his groove after starting the year on the Injured List. He can keep it going against an Atlanta offense that’s scored 2 or fewer runs in 4 of the last 7 games. The Braves are not hitting right-handed pitching well over the past week, with a .225 BA (24th in MLB), .289 wOBA (24th), and 83 wRC+ (26th) in the split.Â
On the other side, Carlos Carrasco starts for the Braves. The veteran has a shaky 5.68 ERA and 5.22 FIP this season. After the Yankees cut bait on the righty, he just made his Atlanta debut last week. It was a quality start, but the damage could’ve been worse as Carrasco allowed 7 hits and 2 walks in the process.Â
Carrasco may be in for a rough outing here. The Marlins are averaging a solid 4.6 runs per game over their last 12 contests. Miami is also above-average vs. righties over the past week (.329 wOBA, 109 wRC+).Â
The Marlins also have the bullpen advantage. Since the AS break, Miami’s pen has a 3.70 ERA (12th in MLB) while Atlanta’s relievers have an ugly 7.15 ERA in this stretch (29th). Grab the visitors on the full-game and first five innings moneylines.Â

Athletics vs. Washington Nationals Predictions: Thursday, August 7th
Thursday’s MLB slate gets going early with a matinee matchup between two last-place teams. The Athletics and Washington Nationals split the first two games of this series ahead of today’s finale. Let’s break it down and find some winning MLB picks.Â
The A’s are quietly playing well right now, with an 8-4 record over their past 12 games. Meanwhile, the Nats won yesterday to break a 6-game losing streak. Washington is still just 8-18 since July 4th.Â
Nationals starter Mitchell Parker has struggled to a 5.35 ERA and 1.47 WHIP this season. The left-hander just coughed up 8 runs on 12 hits in his latest start. He has a 7.86 ERA over his past 5 outings and a 6.94 ERA over his last 8 starts. After he exits, the Washington bullpen isn’t exactly trustworthy either. Over the past two weeks, the Nats’ pen has a 7.31 ERA.Â
It may be another shaky outing for Parker today against a dangerous offense. The Athletics are averaging 6.0 runs per game over their last 12 contests. They’re also hammering left-handed pitching over the past two weeks, with a .367 wOBA (3rd in MLB), .308 BA (3rd), 135 wRC+ (3rd), and .853 OPS (3rd).Â
On the other side of the matchup, Jacob Lopez starts for the A’s. The lefty has been very effective recently with a 2.70 ERA over his past 10 starts. He’s allowed fewer than 3 earned runs in 7 of those 10 outings as well. Lopez also owns a solid 3.26 ERA over his last 4 starts.Â
Washington, meanwhile, is struggling against left-handed pitching right now. Over the past two weeks vs. lefties, the Nats have a .241 wOBA (29th in MLB), 51 wRC+ (29th), .199 BA (26th), and .539 OPS (29th). It’s a favorable matchup for Lopez, who’s thrown back-to-back scoreless outings coming into this one.Â
It’s also worth noting how the situational spot favors the visitors today. After this getaway day game, Washington then has to travel cross-country to begin a series in San Francisco on Friday. As for the A’s, they stay in the area to face Baltimore tomorrow. We could also get a hangover performance from the Nats after they broke a losing streak yesterday on a walkoff.Â
