Brewers vs. Dodgers NLCS Game 3 Predictions: Thursday, October 16th

This NLCS has been low-scoring overall. Both of the first two games went under as pitching dominated, especially on the Dodgers’ side of things. Let’s bank on that trend continuing today as the series shifts to Los Angeles.

Tyler Glasnow will start for the Dodgers. He tossed 6 shutout innings with 8 strikeouts at home against the Phillies in the NLDS. The right-hander also appeared for 1.2 scoreless innings in relief during Game 1 of that series. He now boasts an impressive 2.64 ERA since the beginning of August (spanning 58 innings).

Let’s count on Glasnow quieting a Milwaukee offense that’s been dominated by Blake Snell and Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the first two games. Maybe Glasnow isn’t as dominant, but he’s still an elite pitcher at his best. Plus, he had a 2.77 ERA at home this season. It’s also notable that he faced the Brewers twice this year and allowed just 2 runs over 11 combined innings.

As for Milwaukee’s Game 3 pitching plans, it’s still unknown as of this writing. Manager Pat Murphy said that everyone besides Freddy Peralta, the Game 2 starter, will be available. We’ll likely see the Brewers roll out some kind of mixture of an opener, a bulk reliever, and high-leverage guys in tight situations.

Overall, the Brewers need to limit the Dodgers’ scoring chances and overall run production in this must-win scenario to avoid going down 0-3 in the series. So, expect Murphy to get creative and play the lefty/righty matchups as much as possible. The LA offense is also averaging just 3.0 runs over the past 5 postseason games.

Let’s grab the under for the full game. Plus, take the over on Glasnow’s outs and strikeouts props. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts is letting his starters go deep to avoid using the shaky bullpen. Plus, they can afford to have Glasnow pitch deeper if he’s rolling and save arms for Game 4.

Blue Jays vs. Mariners ALCS Game 4 Predictions: Thursday, October 16th

After going down 0-2 at home, Toronto bounced back with a resounding 13-4 victory in Game 3 last night. The Blue Jays will try to even up the ALCS tonight in Seattle. However, we’re looking at the Mariners to take a commanding 3-1 series lead.

Seattle has the starting pitching edge with Luis Castillo on the mound at home. The right-hander posted a 2.60 ERA and 0.97 WHIP at home this season, compared to a 4.71 ERA and 1.46 WHIP on the road. The Mariners intentionally lined up Castillo to pitch at home, just like they did in the NLDS.

That plan paid off against the Tigers, as Castillo spun 4.2 shutout innings while allowing only 1 hit in a Seattle victory. He also tossed 1.1 scoreless innings in relief during the Game 5 extra-innings marathon. We shouldn’t worry about that outing affecting Castillo much for this game, since he only threw 15 pitches, and he’s on the full five days’ rest anyway.

Including the postseason, Castillo now boasts a 0.86 ERA over his past 6 appearances with just 3 runs allowed over 31.1 innings. His current form is dominating opposing lineups. He’s also allowed 2 or fewer runs in 5 of his last 6 home starts. The righty should keep it going against a Toronto offense that was held in check by Seattle pitching for the first two games. The Jays’ bats woke up last night, but George Kirby wasn’t at his best.

On the other side, the veteran Max Scherzer starts for Toronto. It’s an interesting move and one that could backfire. Scherzer hasn’t pitched in a game in three weeks, when he gave up 10 hits and 4 runs to the Red Sox. He also ended the regular season with a poor 9.00 ERA over his final 6 starts.

Scherzer now faces a dangerous Mariners offense on the road in his first outing in a while. The Blue Jays will likely have a short leash on the 41-year-old, who had a 5.91 road ERA this year. That means the shaky Toronto bullpen may be needed to get through the majority of this game. Well, the Jays’ relievers have a rough 6.35 ERA in the postseason.

Take the Mariners to win as well as lead after five innings. Expect Seattle to get out to an early lead by getting to Scherzer and the Jays’ pen, while Castillo does his thing. Let’s also add in the under on Scherzer’s outs prop, too.
