Time to check in with Fantasy Alarm MLB Best Bets and Prop Bets for today, Thursday, April 4.

We’ve got a very short slate of MLB games today, including our first doubleheader of the season between the New York Mets and Detroit Tigers. We’re going to leave those games alone as the players have been thrown off their schedules and recent weather reports are still showing some rain. Dealing with potential delays is never fun and we also run the risk of shortened games, especially when they’re trying to jam in two.

Another reason I want to leave those games alone is I wanted to really take my time with today’s MLB picks, line movement and analysis. Yesterday’s MLB betting article left us in a brutal hole. Again, if you cannot take some of these early-season swings, get out now.

Daily betting in baseball can be tough at times and while I take full responsibility for the picks I give out – and by that, I mean, yes, I bet them too – let me remind you that players at the plate who have just a 30% success rate are considered Hall of Fame material.

But we now have a hole to chip our way out of and while getting back to even may take a few days or even a week, I have never finished an MLB betting season in the red. Never. And I don’t plan on it now. We’ll find the value and we’ll move forward with today’s MLB props and predictions.

  • Yesterday’s Record: 1-6

White Sox vs. Royals Prediction Today, 4/4

I’ll start my MLB predictions today with this AL Central contest. The Royals are back at home to take on another rival and get a nice break with tonight’s matchup between Seth Lugo and Mike Soroka. Lugo looked strong in his debut against the Twins, tossing six scoreless frames, allowing just two hits with one walk.

Now he’s got a White Sox team that won’t have Eloy Jimenez in the middle of the lineup and has a soft .286 wOBA with a 23.5-percent strikeout rate against righties thus far. Lugo has that low-90s fastball with a solid curveball he likes to drop in and should keep the Chicago hitters off-balance enough to stifle any sort of effort.

On the other side, the White Sox are throwing Michael Soroka, who is still trying to find his way. He struggled in his debut against the Tigers, allowing four runs in five innings, but more telling was his zero punchouts and three walks. His secondary offerings are still very much a work in progress and if the Royals can lay off his slider (which he is struggling to locate), then they should be able to chase him early after grabbing a lead.

Marlins vs. Cardinals Prediction Today, 4/4

While the Cardinals offense seems to be waking up, taking two of three from the Padres, the Marlins just look lost at the plate right now. Their pitching looks equally lost and, well, downright horrendous.

Miami will throw lefty Ryan Weathers, who took some serious lumps from the Pirates in his first start, and while the Cardinals offense hasn’t done a great job against lefties lately, their veteran bats appear primed to break out here in the home opener. That’s the key for me here – the home opener. Just a totally different vibe in Busch Stadium and the Cardinals want to get themselves going if they are going to compete in this division.

Veteran Lance Lynn is on the bump for St. Louis and while I am not the biggest fan, again, this Marlins lineup is struggling mightily. Through the first week of the season, Miami has posted the fourth-lowest team wOBA (.256) and have struck out 24.6-percent of the time.

Lynn doesn’t need to be spectacular to stave off this lineup and get the Cardinals back to .500, he just needs to keep their lineup at bay for a few innings. The focus with my MLB picks, though, is going to be on the bats.
