League of Legends European Championship & Championship Series

After a thrilling Thursday of matches, Friday brings us some electric matchups in the Western leagues. For Europe, they have two teams who have underperformed all split but the path to the world championship still lays out in front of them. Redemption for a tumultuous year is in the hands of Team Solomid, who shocked the world with their series win over FlyQuest last weekend. They have to make it through an Evil Geniuses team who dropped into the loser’s bracket with a shocking loss to C9. Who will continue their path through the playoffs and who is heading home? Let’s dive in!

League of Legends DFS Playbook

Game #1: Misfits v Fnatic

Game Breakdown: This matchup between MSF and FNC is a fascinating one. For Fnatic, expectations for this team are so high and many believe that they should have led the league this year. In the first split they controlled the map and their all-star bottom lane of Upset and Hyllisang actually carried games. After their loss to G2 in the Spring Split playoffs, everything has seemed off. Humanoid (mid) can disappear for games at a time and their top laner (Wunder) falls behind even if he was drafted to win. They are taking on a Misfits team who most believe are a bit of a sham. They had a tendency to be carried by Vetheo in splits past and players like Neon didn’t carry their weight. I think they are a little better than how most remember them though. Zanzarah provides pressure in the early game that has allowed other players to come online and that (plus Fnatic’s terrible drafting) is why I think MSF sneak the series win here.

Favorite Picks: Razork (FNC: $6,800), Upset (FNC: $7,400)

Value Picks: Irrelevant (MSF: $6,000), Neon (MSF: $7,200), Mersa (MSF: $5,400), Misfits ($4,800)

Cann’s Match Pick: Misfits (3-2)

Game #2: Evil Geniuses v Team Solomid

Game Breakdown: Now the TSM win over FlyQuest wasn’t as surprising as the seeding may sound. In the LCS, the games are played as best-of-1 series rather than a best-of-3 like the LPL and LCK. This allows mediocre teams like FlyQuest to rack up more wins than I think they should and we see them promptly get walked out of playoffs as a result. That being said, Team Solomid is not pulling a glorious upset here. The gap between Evil Geniuses and TSM is an entire ocean and just on an individual skill level, TSM won’t be able to keep up. I think the most intriguing matchup will be between Inspired and Spica in the jungle, as they are both the best players on their respective team.

Favorite Picks: Danny (EG: $11,400/$7,600), Impact (EG: $6,600), jojopyun (EG: $7,400), Evil Geniuses ($5,600)

Value Picks: Spica (TSM: $6,600), Maple (TSM: $6,600), Chime (TSM: $5,000)

Cann’s Match Pick: Evil Geniuses (3-1)
