Dmitry Orlov is expected to be out of action for Washington's next four games because of NHL health and safety protocols.
Orlov, Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Ilya Samsonov were added to the NHL's COVID-19 protocol-related absence list on Wednesday after they were in a hotel room together during the team's recent road trip. The Capitals were fined $100,000 for this violation of COVID-19 protocols which involved social interactions among team members who were in close contact and who were not wearing face coverings. "I know that there was a positive case and, through their tracing and their tracking, the players were honest with what they did," Laviolette said. "I don't know the exact chain myself of how things happened, but there was a determination that there were four players that were close contacts and from there they now have to quarantine."

"There'll probably be an announcement at some point, but I believe we're looking at that and we'll look at everything." Alex Ovechkin won't be available for Washington's next four games after violating the NHL's COVID-19 protocols. 
Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Ilya Samsonov and Dmitry Orlov will be unavailable for the team's next four games and then their cases will be reviewed. Coach Peter Laviolette said Thursday that the four players will quarantine while following COVID-19 protocols. They violated COVID-19 protocols after they were in a hotel room together during the team's recent road trip. "I know that there was a positive case and, through their tracing and their tracking, the players were honest with what they did," Laviolette said. "I don't know the exact chain myself of how things happened, but there was a determination that there were four players that were close contacts and from there they now have to quarantine." The Capitals bench boss was asked to clarify if that means one of those four players tested positive and he said, "No. The four players are under protocol for COVID and so, because of that, they have to quarantine at this point." The NHL provides that kind of information, so Laviolette said all he could on the matter.
