2026 Fantasy Baseball Player Profile

Ramón Laureano’s 2025 season was a career-defining resurgence that saw him transform from a DFA casualty into the Padres’ most vital mid-season acquisition. After starting the year with the Orioles on a $4 million "prove-it" deal, Laureano was traded to San Diego in July, where he caught lightning in a bottle. Across 132 total games, he slashed .281/.342/.512, tying his career high with 24 home runs and setting a personal best with 76 RBI. His 3.8 bWAR was the highest of his seven-year career, fueled by a significant drop in strikeout rate (from 31% to 24%) and a career-high 90.3 mph average exit velocity. However, his season met a heartbreaking end on September 24 when he suffered a fractured right index finger, forcing him to watch from the dugout as the Padres fell to the Cubs in the Wild Card round.

Entering 2026, the 31-year-old has officially solidified his home in San Diego. In November, the Padres made the "easiest decision of the offseason" by exercising his $6.5 million club option. Now fully healed from the finger fracture, Laureano arrived at spring training in Peoria as the projected everyday left fielder, slated to anchor the grass alongside Jackson Merrill and Fernando Tatis Jr.  While he was named to the Dominican Republic’s 2026 World Baseball Classic roster, reports suggest he will serve as a high-end defensive replacement and bench bat for a squad overflowing with superstar outfielders.

For fantasy managers, Laureano is a premier "late-round sleeper" with an ADP around 225.
