Tigers pitching coach Rick Anderson said Michael Fulmer (elbow) isn't close to throwing to live hitters.
In fact, Anderson said "no chance" when asked if Fulmer could be throwing to hitters soon. This is partially about the circumstances surrounding the pandemic more than anything else. Fulmer doesn't have anybody to throw to right now and the Tigers don't want to ramp things up with so much still up in the air about the season. The 27-year-old is now 14 months removed from Tommy John surgery and recently said that he's "100 percent pain-free." The expectation is that he will move to facing hitters whenever the second spring training gets underway, but he'd still need a few rehab starts under his belt, so late July or early August remains the best-case scenario.
