The Fantasy Hockey season is starting to ramp up and so are the injuries. Some players are going to be out for an extended period, but that opens the door for others to step up and seize their chance. There are a couple of players on the waiver wire that should be on your roster moving forward. Let’s take a look at those names and continue to build momentum throughout the week.

Fantasy Hockey Week 4 Injury Report

Ross Colton - Colorado Avalanche - Hand

Ross Colton hurt his hand against the Utah Hockey Team on Thursday and was unable to return to the game. Colorado has two back-to-back games and we don’t know if he will be able to suit up for either. The Avalanche have been dealing with so many injuries, they can’t afford to lose another body. We should get an update on Ross before the puck drops, so look out for that.

Juraj Salfkovsky - Montreal Canadiens - Shoulder

Juraj Slafkovsky has missed the last two games due to a shoulder injury and he’s likely to miss a couple more games. He was seen at practice favoring his shoulder following the game against the Los Angeles Kings, but still suited up against the Islanders. It doesn’t sound like the injury is too bad, but the team may be playing it safe, hoping it doesn’t get worse. He is expected to be reevaluated this week, so fantasy owners may want to hold off until then before deciding on what to do with the youngster.

Tristan Jarry - Pittsburgh Penguins - Bad at Hockey

Ok, that might be a little mean, but we’re spitting facts here. Tristan Jarry has been a mess and the team is trying everything to get his confidence back. He was a healthy scratch for two games and how the team has sent him to the AHL on a conditioning stint to get some games in and work on his craft. This isn’t an ideal situation for anyone, but you have to believe the Penguins are going to give Jarry every chance possible to earn the net back. They are paying him too much money to be sitting in the pressbox.

Robert Thomas - St. Louis Blues - Ankle

St. Louis forward Robert Thomas is expected to miss at least six weeks due to a fractured ankle. He suffered the injury against the Winnipeg Jets and was unable to finish the game. This is a tough break for fantasy owners and the Blues. If you have the room to stash him on IR, that would be the route to take, if not, drop him and look for a replacement. He could miss more than the minimum and it’s early enough in the fantasy hockey season to look for value on the waiver wire.

Fantasy Hockey Week 4 Waiver Wire

Viktor Arvidsson - Edmonton Oilers - Yahoo!: 32% owned

Viktor Arvidsson finally collected his first points as an Edmonton Oiler. He had three assists in just over 17 minutes of ice time. We know he can score goals and rack up points, so this was welcomed news for fantasy owners. As long as he can hold onto a top-six role, he’s going to produce. He’s a good addition to a fantasy team looking for some scoring depth.

Logan Stankoven - Dallas Stars - Yahoo!: 44% owned

Logan Stankoven only has one goal this season, but he has racked up eight assists. He’s on a point-per-game pace, which is very good. He’s skating on the top line and that has certainly helped his production. It would be nice to see more goals, but the kid is producing and that’s all that matters. His shot volume is decent and he’s seeing a healthy amount of ice time. He might cool off a bit as the season goes on, but he’s a great depth add with the potential to be a lock on a fantasy roster.

Lane Hutson - Montreal Canadiens - Yahoo!: 45% owned

Most of you know just how big a fan I am of Lane Hutson and I need the rest of you to get on board. He’s a young kid in the NHL playing a tough position, so yeah, he’s going to have growing pains. I know he was -4 a few games ago, but if your league is still using the plus-minus stat, it’s time to remove it and join 2024. Hutson is capable of making plays and is seeing over 24 minutes a night. He’s not the problem in Montreal, the team is. The Canadiens can’t defend, so yeah, some nights it’s going to be rough. The sky is the moon for this kid and he’s just starting. Once he gets even more comfortable, the shots and goals are going to come. Stop sleeping on him!

Joel Blomqvist - Pittsburgh Penguins - Yahoo!: 8% owned

I had Joel Blomqvist here last week and for whatever reason, his ownership has dropped. I get that the Penguins are a mess, but this kid is good and is just getting started. Pittsburgh has sent Tristan Jarry to the AHL on a conditioning stint to get his confidence back, so in the meantime, someone has to step up and be the starter. Blomqvist made 46 saves against the Oilers On Friday in a game that was more onesided than a Jacob Trouba hit to the head. Blomqvist is going to lose games-- that’s a given-- but he’s good enough to start and give his team a chance to win. It might be hard to trust him every night, but in the right matchup, he’s going to provide value. If the rest of you don’t jump on him, I’m going to write him up again in this same spot until we see that ownership go up.
