Welcome to another edition of the Fantasy Hockey Injury Report. Every week, we will discuss some key injuries around the league and how they may affect your fantasy hockey team.  It’s never easy to deal with the injury bug, but it doesn’t have to be the demise of your fantasy hockey team. Let’s take a look at who’s dealing with what this week!

NHL Injury Report Week 17

Jakob Chychrun, Arizona Coyotes - Not Injury Related

It looks like Jakob Chychrun’s time in Arizona is finally coming to an end. The team has announced that the star defenceman will be held out of games until the trade deadline as they work on moving him to a different team. The deadline is still over two weeks away, so fantasy owners need to sit tight and hope this gets sorted out sooner rather than later.

Cale Makar, Colorado Avalanche - Head

Colorado defenceman Cale Makar has missed the last four games due to a head injury and there is still no timetable for his return. The team is refusing to call it a concussion, but the lack of a timetable for his return leads us to believe that he’s dealing with something serious enough that he needs time. He finished the same on February 7th and hasn’t played since. Consider him day-to-day until the team gives us more information.

Filip Forsberg, Nashville Predators - Upper-body

Filip Forsberg has missed the last two games with an upper-body injury, but there is a chance he returns to the lineup on Thursday against the Bruins. He suffered the injury against the Philadelphia Flyers and was unable to finish that game. Even if he doesn’t play on Thursday, he should be able to make a return before the end of the week.

Anton Forsberg, Ottawa Senators - Knee

Already without Cam Talbot, the Ottawa Senators will be without goalie Anton Forsberg for the remainder of the season due to injuries to both his knees. He suffered an MCL tear in both his knees and is going to need about two to three months to recover. It’s a tough blow for fantasy owners who had him on their team, but he wasn’t having a great season, so this might be the kick in the rear to finally drop him.

Alex Ovechkin, Washington Capitals - Personal

The Washington Capitals announced that Alex Ovechkin would be out of the lineup for an indefinite period of time due to personal reasons. We later found out that he had gone back to Russia to be with his father, who passed away on Wednesday. We know that Ovi was close to his father, so this is just terrible news for everyone. We hope that he takes the time to grieve and comes back to scoring goals when ready. We wish him and his family all the best during this very difficult time.
