Welcome to another edition of the Fantasy Hockey Injury Report. The injury report is going to keep you up to date on all the important injuries going on around the league, and how that might affect your fantasy hockey team. Make sure to check back regularly for any updates. Let’s take a look at some players that are either ruled out, or that we need to monitor.

Teuvo Teravainen - Carolina Hurricanes - Lower-body

Teuvo Teravainen has missed the last two games due to a lower-body injury and continues to be day-to-day. He was considered a game-time decision for the game against San Jose, but in the end, he wasn’t able to suit up. Carolina’s next game is on February 7th, so we should get an update on his status heading into the week.

Braden Holtby - Dallas Stars - Lower-body

Dallas goaltender Braden Holtby is dealing with a lower-body and is considered day-to-day. The veteran hasn’t played the last two games, and we don’t have any additional information as to when he may be ready to return. The Stars are hoping he can return after the All-Star break, but at this moment, it seems unlikely. Fantasy owners may want to stash him on their bench while we wait for another update.

David Savard - Montreal Canadiens - Ankle

If you’re in our NHL DFS Discord channel, you know how much David Savard means to us. The veteran defenceman will be out of the lineup for eight weeks due to an ankle injury. He’s not going to blow anyone away with his points, but in leagues that reward blocked shots, he was as good as it gets. With the Habs season already pretty much over, they may not want to rush him back and just give him all the time needed to recover. There’s no need to stash Savard on IR.

Josh Norris - Ottawa Senators - Shoulder

Centerman Josh Norris is expected to seek a second opinion on his shoulder injury and is considered out indefinitely. Norris injured himself against Carolina on January 27th, and so far, there isn’t a concrete plan as to what the next step is. He went to visit the same surgeon who performed his last operation in 2019, and the timeline then was three-to-four weeks. If he elects to go down that route, barring any complications, he would have a chance to return before the end of the season. This is a very complicated situation, so fantasy owners may want to start scouting the waiver wire for a backup plan.

Alex Ovechkin - Washington Capitals - COVID-19

Alex Ovechkin was added to the cOVID-19 protocol list after receiving a positive test and unfortunately wasn’t able to attend the All-Star game. We know that Ovi hasn’t enjoyed going to the event in previous years, so it was perfect timing to be added to the list and not have to serve a one-game suspension. We should expect him to return for the Capitals next game February 8th against Columbus.
