NHL Injury Report: December 11th
Published: Dec 11, 2021
Welcome to another edition of the Fantasy Hockey Injury Report. The injury report is going to keep you up to date on all the important injuries going on around the league, and how that might affect your fantasy hockey team. Make sure to check back regularly for any updates. Let’s take a look at some players that are either ruled out, or that we need to monitor.
Nazem Kadri
We should start to panic, but Nazem Kadri is considered day-to-day with a lower-body injury and is questionable to play on Sunday. The veteran centerman missed Friday’s game, and he may have to sit for a second game. He’s been having a great season, so hopefully he can return to the lineup sooner rather than later.
Gabriel Landeskog
Sticking with the Avalanche, captain Gabirel Landeskog is also considered day-to-day with a lower-body injury. It doesn’t sound like anything serious, but it’s something to monitor as we move into the week.
Aleksander Barkov
After missing eight games due to injury, Aleksander Barkov returned to the lineup on December 7th, but didn’t suit up for the following game against Arizona and is now listed as day-to-day. We don’t know what injury he is dealing with this time, or how long he could be out of the lineup. This isn’t the news fantasy owners were hoping to get, but let’s hope that it’s nothing long term.
Jake Guentzel
The Pittsburgh Penguins just can’t seem to stay healthy. Already without Bryan Rust, they will now be without the services of Jake Guentzel due to an upper-body injury. He’s considered week-to-week, so it’s safe to say that we should expect a return from the winger this week. This is something we’ll have to monitor at the start of every week.
Tyler Toffoli and Christian Dvorak
The list of injured players for the Montreal Canadiens just keeps growing. Already without a ton of regulars, news came out that Tyler Toffoli will miss eight weeks due to a broken hand, and Christian Dvorak is still day-to-day with a lower-body injury. The Toffoli news hurts the most, especially for fantasy owners who were looking for a repeat of last season. As for Dvorak, we should know more as we enter next week.
Jordan Binnington and Ville Husso
It’s never a good thing when you lose your starting and back up goalie in the same week, but that’s exactly what has happened to the St. Louis Blues. Jordan Binnington is on the COVID-19 protocol list and could return to the team as early as next week. While for Husso, he was moved to IR on Friday and there is no timetable for his return. Charlie Lindgren should continue to handle the goaltending duties until either goalie is ready to return.
Mitch Marner **UPDATE**
It was originally expected that Mitch Marner wouldn’t miss much time after colliding with Jake Muzzin in practice a week ago, but the winger has now missed five games in a row and was moved to IR. He had an MRI done on his shoulder and it was determined that he would miss about three-to-four weeks. It’s unfortunate to see him get hurt like that, but at least we have a return date and fantasy owners can adjust accordingly.
Blake Wheeler
Winnipeg Jets captain Blake Wheeler suffered a knee injury in Friday’s game against Vancouver and there is no timetable for his return. Head coach Paul Maurice came out and said that Wheeler “ is going to be out awhile”, which isn’t good news. How long a while is still not known, but you have to believe it’s going to be at least a month. We’ll see who gets an opportunity to step up in his absence.
