I love fantasy football drafts. It’s the best part of fantasy football. And, years ago, that love caused me to make a minor mistake.

I once accepted every draft invite I received. Which was awesome - until the season started. And then I had a million leagues where I needed to place my waivers, set my lineups, address trades etc. It was a nightmare. And explaining why I had to leave some of those leagues the following year was awkward.

When I discovered how to play best ball fantasy football, I was able to avoid all of that awkwardness. It’s guilt-free drafting without having to set the lineups. And it’s glorious.

Today, I plan on laying out the basic information as it pertains to how to play best ball fantasy football, focusing on league types and the absolute best platforms to play on.

League Types

Best Ball allows for some creative tournament options. You can do a typical 10-12 team league. You can also do giant tournaments that start as 12-team drafts but whittle thousands of players down to just one winner (with big prizes).

We’ll talk strategy shortly but the rankings here are geared towards player upside which helps in all best ball formats, not just tournaments.
