2022 NFL Weekly Survivor Pool: Week 2 Top Picks & Plays
Week 1 of the NFL season was a blood bath in survivor pools. If you're still alive in NFL weekly survivor leagues, major potholes were avoided. I didn't have a good feeling and it was worse than I envisioned. The Circa Survivor pool started with 6,133 entries and only 2,685 remain. Fortunately, my top play from Week 1 was the Baltimore Ravens and they won. My other two picks weren't as fortunate with the Indianapolis Colts tying the Houston Texans and the San Francisco 49ers falling short in a monsoon.
In Week 1, most of the big favorites were on the road. When looking at NFL Week 2 odds, there are five favorites of at least eight points or more at home including four of double-digits. NFL Week 2 Survivor Picks
1) Green Bay Packers
The Packers tend to start slowly. They lost in Week 1 last season to the Saints, 38-3 and lost last week to Minnesota. What's the remedy? A matchup at home against the Bears in prime time. Aaron Rodgers has won 22 of 27 matchups against the Bears. The Packers are 9-0 coming off a loss under Matt LaFleur, winning by an average of double-digits. The Packers defense is excellent and the Bears offense averaged only 3.6 yards per play last week, although it was a monsoon. While there is some questions about the receiving corps, Aaron Lazard could return this week and the Packers will bounce back against an inferior opponent. The Bears haven't won in Green Bay since 2015.
2) Buffalo Bills
The Bills are one of the top teams in the NFL and some people might want to save them for a future date. After the carnage last week, it might not be the best idea. The Bills get extra rest after opening the season on Thursday night for their home opener in front of a fired up fan base with Super Bowl expectations. The Bills dominated the Rams and the game only seemed closer due to the Bills turnovers. The Bills averaged 7.1 yards per play and held the Rams to 3.7 yards per play. The Titans aren't a good team and far from the squad that beat the Bills the last two seasons. Derrick Henry hasn't been efficient since the beginning of last season and was held to 82 yards on 21 carries last week. The Bills pass rush was excellent last week and the Titans offensive line isn't as good as the last few seasons.
3) Denver Broncos
The Broncos handed the game to Seattle last week. They fumbled twice at the goal line and botched the end of the game by setting for a 64-yard field goal instead of going for a fourth-and-5. The Broncos offense moved the ball and out-gained Seattle, 433-253, and averaged 6.8 yards per play. The Texans tied the Colts, 20-20, and blew a 17-point fourth quarter lead. The Colts outgunned the Texans, 517-299. The Colts turned it over twice and Alec Pierce and Ashton Dulin dropped touchdown passes in the end zone. The Broncos have been dominant at home in September and are 19-3 in the last 22 home openers. The next best spot to use the Broncos is Week 7 at home against the Jets and there aren't many ideal spots for Denver playing in the AFC West.
