What a phenomenal Sunday that was with the Coke 600 and the spectacular race it was. Now it’s time to turn the page. This weekend we have a NASCAR Cup Series first with a race at World Wide Technology Raceway. You may know it as Gateway from the Truck Series races in the past. This track, located outside of St. Louis, Missouri, has long been a favorite among drivers and teams in the lower divisions and fans alike. Now it’s finally team for the Cup Series to get a crack at it. Sunday brings the 15th race of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series and the 17th for NASCAR DFS.

Enjoy Illinois 300 Schedule

Enjoy Illinois 300: Sunday 6/5 3:30 p.m. ET

The Truck Series is also racing at Gateway this weekend with practice and qualifying on Friday and the race on Saturday. Xfinity will be in Portland this weekend with practice on Friday and the race on Saturday.

World Wide Technology Raceway Weather

We’re in store for a good weather weekend in the heartland. It can be dicey this time of year in St. Louis but the forecast is for a clean weekend. Temperatures in the upper-70s on Friday and Saturday and then on Sunday it’s in the low-80s but with a spike in precipitation chance. It’s likely to be spot shower chances. With that being said, there’s still a shot that we see a delay during the race.

Gateway Track Layout

World Wide Technology Raceway has one of the more unique layouts on the NASCAR schedule. It is a 1.25-mile layout with one set of corners that is a tighter radius than the other. If that sounds familiar, it makes us think of Darlington. However, Gateway isn’t nearly as banked as Darlington is. Just how shallow is WWT Raceway? Eleven degrees of banking in Turns 1 & 2 and just nine degrees of title in Turns 3 & 4. That means it’s more like a Phoenix in terms of banking and a bit of setup as well.

NASCAR DFS Strategy For The Enjoy Illinois 300

With a track as short as Gateway on tap for Sunday’s race, what are we doing for strategy? Well, to start, we’re going to approach it like Phoenix and a bit like Darlington (though with fewer laps led). It should also be a shortish race with how quickly the laps can be clicked off here very quickly. In terms of comparison tracks, we can use shorter, flatter tracks this year for the comp tracks to Gateway. Since it’s the first race here, that’s all we have to go on — that and practice.
