Players to Watch

David Price - Boston starter David Price has had an up and down season, but he did toss 6.1 shutout innings against Detroit in his last outing.  The Phillies this season rank 24th in team average and 23rd in team OPS against left-handed pitching this season.

Mookie Betts - Boston has a pair of MVP candidates this year with Mookie Betts leading the pack.  Betts is hitting .344 with 84 runs, 25 home runs, 56 RBI, 20 stolen bases and an OPS of 1.087 on the year.  At home this season he is hitting .386 with an OPS of 1.220.

J.D. Martínez - Martinez leads the majors with 32 home runs to go along with a .326 average and an OPS of 1.033. Martinez has worn out right-handed pitching this season, hitting .330 with an OPS of 1.084 while hitting 28 of his 32 home runs off a righty.  In Fenway this season he is hitting .354 with an OPS of 1.174.

Andrew Benintendi - Benintendi is enjoying a strong sophomore season as he is hitting .300 with 73 runs, 14 home runs, 62 RBI and 18 stolen bases.  During the month of July, Benintendi is hitting .365 with 17 runs, seven doubles, one home run and nine RBI. Players to Watch

Aaron Nola - Phillies starter Aaron Nola is enjoying a breakout season, going 12-3 with a 2.42 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP while striking out 136 over 134 innings.  During the month of July Nola has been even better, posting a 2.16 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP while striking out 29 over 25 innings. He will have a tough test tonight as he faces the league's best offense against right-handed pitching this season.

Rhys Hoskins - Hoskins is hitting .345 with give home runs and nine RBI over the last seven days.  On the year Hoskins is hitting .260 with 21 home runs and 70 RBI to prove that last season’s power surge was no fluke.  Like most of the Phillies, Hoskins is struggling against southpaws this season, hitting just .225 with two home of his 21 home runs.

Odubel Herrera - Herrera is enjoying a career year as his 19 home runs through 102 games already bests his previous career mark. Herrera is 0-for-2 with a walk in his career vs David Price and this season, despite being left-handed, he is hitting .292 with a .779 OPS against southpaws.

Carlos Santana - Santana is 10-for-31 with four doubles in his career vs Davis Price.  Though he is hitting just .212 on the season Santana is hitting .240 with a .787 OPS against southpaws.  Since the All-Star break Santana is hitting .237 with one double, one triple, two home runs and an OPS of .815.

Pre-Game Props

Q1. Aaron Nola throws more pitches than David Price in the 1st inning.

Even though Nola is the better pitcher so far this season he is facing the far greater offense and an environment that is not favorable to the opposing pitchers.  For that reason, I am going to go with a YES that Nola throws more pitches than Price in the first inning.

Q2. Boston batters combine to take more pitches than PHI batters in the 1st inning.

I again am going to go with a YES for this but only because I am expecting Nola to see more batters.  Both pitchers are pretty accurate throwers and both lineups are fairly aggressive at the plate, so I doubt there will be a ton of pitches taken here.

Q3. A batter from both teams takes 4 or more pitches in the 1st inning.

I am going to go with a NO for this question.  I don’t see batters from both teams walking in the first inning.

Q4. Philadelphia batters combine to swing and miss 4 or more times in the 1st inning.

This is a tough one and I will so NO that there will not be a ton of swing and misses during the first inning for the Phillies.  Though it wouldn’t shock me to see Price get a strike out in the 1st inning I can see strikes being called due to foul balls or looking.

Q5. A Philadelphia batter reaches any three-ball count in the 1st inning.

Price rarely walks batters, but he does nibble at times.  The top of this Phillies lineup is pretty aggressive however, so I will go with a NO for this prop.

Q6. David Price throws exactly 1 first pitch called strike during the 1st inning.

I am going to go with a NO here.  Though aggressive, most hitters will take the first pitch in an at bat to get their timing down.  Price is somebody that throws strikes and therefor I see him throwing more than 1 first pitch called strike in this inning.
