When it comes to rostering or paying for defenses, it’s important to try to find a plus matchup against a turnover prone quarterback. At the same time, you could just target the 49ers offense every week because Blaine Gabbert is putrid. Look at some of the defenses this week in this article. Jameis Winston and Brock Osweiler are both turnover prone, while New England will confuse the hell out of rookie Cody Kessler. It never hurts to have a dynamic special teams either, because hey, points are points.

Here are this week’s top 6 defenses.

Minnesota DST vs. HOU

Minnesota stops the run, defends the pass and has been downright nasty to opposing offenses. Houston quarterback Brock Osweiler continues to throw interceptions and chances are he throws at least one in this contest. Surefire start this week.

Arizona DST @SF

Played on Thursday night. San Fran tallied just 286 total yards, putting up 21 points. Arizona defense forced three turnovers (2 INTs, 1 fumble) and recorded seven sacks. Solid fantasy output from this defensive unit.

New England DST @CLE

Cody Kessler is going to have his hands full against this offense. Kessler and Co. will likely be playing from behind early and don’t be surprised if the Patriots stack the box and force Kessler to beat them. Running back Isaiah Crowell has been great this season, but if New England can stop him, they’ll make quick work of the Cleveland offense.

Denver DST vs. ATL

Matt Ryan just threw for over 500 yards, but this Denver defense is much better than the Carolina defense Ryan torched last week. The Denver defense is allowing only 283 yards per game, of which 169.5 are passing. Atlanta has its hands full this weekend.

Carolina DST vs. TB

Carolina just got exposed by the Atlanta offense, so you know they are going to play with a vengeance this week. Jameis Winston is turnover prone and the running game could be in trouble if Charles Sims is banged up. Carolina returns to form on Monday night, but the only concern is who the hell is going to stop Mike Evans.

LA Rams DST vs. BUF

Tyrod Taylor doesn’t have Sammy Watkins anymore, so he’s left with Robert Woods and Marquise Goodwin out wide. The Rams haven’t been a standout defense this season, but it’s not like Taylor has been lighting the world on fire. He’s been hit-or-miss, which gives this defense some validation in Week 5.
