Happy Sunday morning, ladies and gents! We have a nice slate for us this afternoon, so while you’re enjoying your morning water, coffee, tea, or mimosa, take a look at my favorite value plays of the day! I have plenty of value bats, and one value arm, for you below to help round out your lineup and put that chef’s kiss to a future green shot!
Without further ado, let’s jump in and take a look at my favorite value plays of the day!
All Sites
Bryan De La Cruz, OF MIA ($2,700 FD/$2,700 DK/$10 Yahoo) - Tyler Mahle has been tough on left-handed hitters this year, but righties have had some success, posting a .275 batting average and .367 wOBA. Well, De La Cruz, a righty, has hit right-handers at a .347 clip this year, and overall, he has a .391 batting average in his home park. He’s hitting an insane .476 over the last week, and while the overall upside is capped, due to his lack of pop (7 XBH in 93 ABs), he’s a safe play this afternoon, as he’s hit safely in 10 of his last 11 contests. UPDATE: De La Cruz isn’t starting today for Miami. Other names to look at in lieu of De La Cruz are Akil Baddoo, Robbie Grossman and Alex Verdugo.
Bradley Zimmer, OF CLE ($2,400 FD/$2,500 DK/$12 Yahoo) - Boston’s Tanner Houck just got hit around by Minnesota in his most recent outing, and Zimmer has been seeing the ball well of late. Not only has he hit righties at a .265 clip with a .792 OPS this year, but over the past week, he’s hitting .316 with a .935 OPS. Furthermore, over his last 46 at-bats, he’s sporting a .283 average and .803 OPS! He’s been a far better play at his home park this year than on the road.
Yahoo!
Ke’Bryan Hayes, 3B PIT ($10) - Hayes is one of my favorite plays of the day. He’s 4-for-5 with a home run against Kwang Hyun Kim, and the St. Louis southpaw has surrendered a .253 batting average to righties, which is far worse than his .139 average against lefties. Hayes has a .752 OPS against southpaws in 2021, and while he’s been a bit cold of late, today is the perfect “get right” game for the young star. Prior to these past two hitless contests, he had hit safely in six straight.
Joey Wendle, 3B/SS TB ($12) - Spenser Watkins has allowed lefties to hit .274 with a .328 wOBA, and even though those numbers are better compared to when he faces right-handers, I’m still rostering Wendle today. He’s hitting .297 with an .804 OPS against righties, and he’s hitting .313 over the last week. Also, on the road this year, he’s hit opposing pitchers at a .333 clip, far better than his .204 mark at home. Wendle on the road against a righty is money in the bank.
DraftKings
Madison Bumgarner, SP ARI ($8,600) - Bumgarner has been excellent of late. Since the calendar flipped to July, he’s allowed just 14 earned runs in 52.2 innings of work! Through five August starts, he’s posted a 2.60 ERA with a 25:6 K/BB ratio. Over the last two weeks, only the Padres have a lower team batting average than the Padres. Sure, the Phillies haven’t struck out a ton over the past couple of weeks, but they haven’t exactly been setting the word ablaze.
Byron Buxton, OF MIN ($2,700) - Keep an eye on whether Minnesota plays him for the third straight day following a lengthy absence, but if he plays, fire him up on DraftKings. Sure, he’s hitless since his return, but he has a .967 OPS against southpaws in 2021, and Milwaukee’s Aaron Ashby has allowed righties to post a .300 batting average against him. I said it yesterday, and I’ll say it again today. You don’t often get stars at this price!
FanDuel
Tyler O’Neill, OF STL ($3,200) - Wil Crowe could be in for a rough day. O’Neill should be a valuable piece of a St. Louis stack today, despite his recent struggles over the last week or so. For the 2021 season as a whole, O’Neill is hitting .267 with an .815 OPS against righties. Despite struggling a bit of late, the powerful outfielder still has an .888 OPS in the month of August and has an .823 OPS on the road. Make sure O’Neill is in any of your St. Louis stacks today.
Michael Conforto, OF NYM ($2,500) - Conforto is 5-for-11 with a home run in his career against Erick Fedde, which is quite good. Fedde has a 4.85 ERA on the road this year and he’s allowed 32 earned runs over his last 47.1 innings on the year. Furthermore, Fedde has allowed lefties to hit .288 against him, and the New York outfielder has a .783 OPS against righties in 2021. Conforto’s 1.100 OPS against the Nationals is his second-highest mark against any team this season.
