DraftKings Recommended Lineup April 20, 2013 (Late Games)Ready to turn $5 into $50k? @DraftKings is giving you the chance now, and itâs through one-day fantasy baseball games http://bit.ly/17fdiMC
All lineups are based off of a $50,000 salary cap featured at DraftKings, you best option in daily fantasy sports gaming. Lineups consist of a two pitchers, one catcher, one first baseman, one second baseman, one third baseman, one shortstop and three outfielders. All scoring and contest rules for DraftKings contests can be found here.P: James McDonald (PIT) vs. ATL--$8,600--Although James McDonald has gone through a rough start to the season, tonight's matchup against the Braves is very intriguing. Other the last three seasons, McDonald has gone 15-6 with a 3.16 earned-run average while pitching at home posting a solid 7.32 K/9 IP in those contests. To add to his great numbers at home, McDonald is 3-0 in four starts against the Braves over the last three seasons, striking out 28 batters in 26 innings of work. As a team, the Braves have struck out the fifth most in all of baseball, and will McDonald's arsenal, he could be in for a big game. Considering the lack of standout pitcher for tonight's contests, make it easy on yourself and roster McDonald. His price isn't too steep, and he should give you a lot in return.P: Scott Kamzir (CLE) @ HOU--$5,000--Although Scott Kazmir hasn't pitched in a big league game since 2011, tonight is a great time to use him in his first start coming off the disabled-list. He gets paired up against the Astros, who are averaging only four runs per game, and as a team are only batting .249 through their first 16 games. We saw this same situation two weeks ago when Bartolo Colon started against the Astros in his first game action since getting suspended, and it worked out well for him. I could be playing with fire with his pick, but at only $5,000, it is a gamble I am willing to take to help bulk up my team elsewhere.C: Buster Posey (SF) vs. SD--$4,500--After a lackluster start to the season, Buster Posey's salary across daily fantasy sites has gone down significantly. Now that he has fallen it has made for a great opportunity to actually profit off of him based on his current salary. Posey has hit Clayton Richard well over the course of his young career, and is 6-for-17 with one home run and five runs batted-in against the Padres lefty. While it is hard to ignore his terrible start (.224 BA, 0 HR, 6 RBI), tonight just might be the night he will start to turn things around. When considering the cost of the other top catchers, this one is really a no-brainer , so take a look at Posey for tonight's contests as I expect him to produce a solid return on investment.1B: Ryan Howard (PHI) vs. STL--$4,500--I am fully aware that Ryan Howard missed Friday night's game, but from what I have read over the last two days he is expected to be back in the starting lineup on Saturday. In the likelihood that Howard will in fact play, he is a decent player to slot at first base for tonight's contests. Howard has only three career at-bats against Lance Lynn, two of which were hits, including one home run. On the season Howard is hitting right-handed pitchers really well, posting a .340 batting average, while also hitting well in the friendly confides of Citizens Bank Park. When drafting Howard you have to always keep it in the back of your mind that there is a chance he could go 0-for-4 with four strikeouts, like he has many times over his career, but all it takes is one swing of the bat to power you up the rankings in daily contests.2B: Jason Kipnis (CLE) @ HOU--$4,000--Playing in his first game since last Friday, Jason Kipnis went 2-for-4 with one walk and one stolen base on Friday against the Astros. From what I saw, he swung the bat really well and appeared to have no residual effects frm his elbow injury. Tonight, Kipnis is matched up against Philip Humber, who he has had success against last season going 3-for-10 with a home run. Due to his injury and poor start to the season, Kipnis' salary has sunk like the Titanic, making him someone to target if you are looking for a standout player at a below average price. Before setting your lineup be sure to check his status, in case there was some aches and pains that were not reported on earlier in the day, so that you don't get Mark DeRosa'd (did not play) like I did last week.SS: Jed Lowrie (OAK) @ TB--$4,200--The Athletics are playing great baseball through the few three weeks of the season, and a lot of that credit has to go to Jed Lowrie, who continues to swing one of the hottest bats in all of baseball. Over his last four games, Lowrie has recorded eight hits, including going 4-for-4 in last night's loss to the Rays. While his career stats against Jeremy Hellickson say "stay away", I am not buying in on that what so ever. The two players are going in opposite directions right now at Hellickson continues to fall just as fast as Lowrie is climbing. Despite how well he is playing there are still over 10 shortstops priced higher than Lowrie, so he can still give you a solid return of investment as longa s his hot streak continues.3B: Evan Longoria (TB) vs. OAK--$4,600--Although the Rays offense has pretty much been garbage this season, there is at least one bright spot, and that has been Even Longoria. He has really turned it on as of late, hitting four home runs in his last five games, despite having a lack of protection around him in the Rays lineup. When a player is this hot, it is hard to turn not use him in daily fantasy contests, considering how much of a "what have you done for me lately" game it has become. Although he is swinging a hot bat, he isn't getting much love, and is still over $1,000 cheaper than the top third baseman for today's contests. As I have previously said, all it takes is one swing, and that is exactly what Longoria has been doing well lately.OF: Michael Brantley (CLE) @ HOU--$4,100--Although Michael Brantley has been slumping lately, going against the Houston Astros weak pitching staff may be the ticket to a turn around. In six career at-bats against Philip Humber, Brantley has two hits, including a double and three runs batted-in. Humber has struggled against lefties over the last few seasons, which favors Brantley, despite the fact that he is a left-handed pitcher defying the odds. While I do not recommend using Brantley if you have extra money to spend, I still think if you are looking for a cheap outfielder to fill out your squad he is worth a shot.OF: Dexter Fowler (COL) vs. ARI--$5,700--Is there a hotter team in baseball than the Colorado Rockies? Both their pitching and hitting has come together for the first time in years, while highly touted players has finally broke out of their shells. Dexter Fowler is off to a great start, putting together the five-tools we all thought he had over the last four years, but couldn't put it all together. Well, 2013 is a different story, hitting seven home runs with 10 runs batted-in over his first 57 at-bats. Fowler has also had success against Trevor Cahill in the past, going 4-for-5 against him with two triples. His price tag is a bit high for my liking, but I am willing to pay the price considering the other outfielders available for tonight's contests.OF: Coco Crisp (OAK) @ TB--$4,600--The Athletics were happy to have Coco Crisp back in the starting lineup on Friday after missing a few games due to injury, and he picked up right were he left off. Like the rest of the team, Crisp has been swinging a hot bat, and has recorded at least one his in all but two games this season. The fact that he still has wheels on the base paths bumps him up even more in my book as he can pretty much steal whenever he pleases. Crisp is batting .333 against Jeremy Hellickson in nine career at-bats, and the way he is pitching now, he should be able to add to his hits total. Expect a solid game from Crisp and consider using him as a No.2 or No. 3 outfielder in daily contests.Total Salary: $49,800To make setting your Fantasy Baseball lineup easy, be sure to utilize RotoInfo.comâs new MLB Lineup Grids, now featuring daily fantasy baseball salaries from DraftKings and others to help you compare prices.Matthew Beck is a Fantasy Sports Columnist for Rotoinfo.com.
