It’s Tuesday, which means I bring to you another trio of players who can help your team down the stretch. I was high on Alex Bregman when he first got called up, but now he’s playing at a level we all hoped and expected to see, so for those in shallow leagues with a waiver wire flush with talent, his second appearance in Category Impact this season is mandated. Chad Green and David Phelps are two righties throwing well at the moment and should be added right now exactly for that reason. While they may not be on your roster for the rest of the season, they could provide some stability for a couple of weeks. Anyway, with the fantasy season dwindling down you have to play for the now, especially if you’re in contention for the title. Right now, these three players are worth rostering.

Alex Bregman, 3B HOU— Bregman sure didn’t look the part through his first six big league games, going just 1-for-24. However, over his last seven games he’s hitting .444 (12-for-27) with four home runs, 10 RBI and seven runs scored. This is the type of play the optimists envisioned when he was initially called up, but players have to adjust to major league pitching. His batting average is steadily on the rise and the young infielder is finding his way onto more and more fantasy rosters. That 25.2 K% is far from enticing, but that will hopefully go down with time. He’s going to play every day for the team moving forward and he’s worth rostering right now even in redraft leagues. If you’re playing in a dynasty format, he’s likely been owned long before his promotion to the show.

Chad Green, SP NYY— The auditions for 2017 have already started for the Bronx Bombers, and Green is making the absolute most of his chances. Since becoming a regular starter, Green is 1-1 with a 0.75 ERA and a 16:1 K/BB ratio in 12 innings of work. He’s made a living with his slider, throwing hit just over 60 times less than his fastball in 2016. The opposition is hitting just .164 off it this season. In 55 at-bats ending with a slider, he’s surrendered just three extra-base hits (1 HR). Also, his slider has induced three double plays on the season. Green’s command has aided his recent hot streak, and as we all know, limiting walks is extremely important for any pitcher. As long as he keeps the walks down and throws strikes, he’s going to be a quality arm moving forward. Look for him to be that sneaky pickup that helps take your team to another level.

David Phelps, SP MIA— Since becoming a starter this month, Phelps has been pretty damn good if you ask me. This month, Phelps is 2-1 in four starts with a 1.31 ERA and a 26:7 K/BB ratio. He’s been much better against right-handers this season, but that’s not to say that lefties are exactly lighting him up. His track record may indicate that regression is near, or we could be looking at a situation where the right-hander has finally put it together. Sure, his last two starts have been against average or worse offenses, but still, he’s put up solid numbers nonetheless. Also, sometimes in season long leagues, you need to put on your DFS cap. His next start will come against the Padres and after seeing his last two starts, he has a legitimate chance of reaching double-digit strikeouts in that one. Roster Phelps because it’s the smart thing to do.
