Tuesday means trivia night at the local restaurant and this Category Impact article up on Fantasy Alarm. There are some interesting fantasy headlines coming around in the next week or so. Tommy Pham is seeing the ball extremely well in St. Louis, while Matt Shoemaker continues to strike batters out at an exceptional clip. A speedster in Miami is returning from a lengthy suspension, which is going to help a ton of fantasy teams.

@colbyrconway on Twitter. You know the deal.

Dee Gordon, 2B MIA— The suspension is coming to an end and let us not forget that Gordon was a second-round pick in many drafts this season. He hits for a high average and steals bases at an exceptionable clip. He broke out last season in a big way, but even his 162-game average is a heck of a stat line. His 162-game average stat line looks like this: .291/.327/.368 slash line with three home runs, 90 runs scored, 39 RBI and 63 stolen bases. Obviously, he won’t hit those numbers this season, but upon his return he will positively impact your team’s average, steals and runs scored. He’s simply too good to be ignored and if he is a free agent in your league, you need to go add him immediately. Don’t let him sit on the waiver wire for even an extra 15 seconds. He’s owned in 67 percent of fantasy leagues and he’s going to have a lot to prove when he returns on July 28. Once again, add this guy, because he is a fantasy game changer.

Tommy Pham, OF STL— Pham is hitting .258 with five home runs, 10 runs scored and seven RBI in 25 games this season. While those numbers aren’t particularly outstanding, if you look at the past week, he’s been pretty damn good. A .294 average, with two homers, three runs scored and four RBI is pretty good for the recent work week. While he is seeing the baseball well, he’s worth an add in NL-only and deeper mixed league formats. However, keep in mind that these numbers aren’t sustainable. He is a short-term fix, but at least for now, he can impact your team. Why aren’t the numbers sustainable you may ask? The batting average may be able to hold, but his slugging percentage will certainly drop. His career slugging percentage in the minors was .414. Well, his current mark is a whopping .548. His current ISO of .290 is well above any mark he’s ever posted in his career. Once again, he is a short-term fix, but even these type of players have a place on a fantasy team, regardless of whether it’s for two weeks or two years.

Matt Shoemaker, SP LAA— Shoemaker has some quality strikeout potential and can even put together a complete game shutout with 13 strikeouts. Yeah, he did that his last time out. He may have a 4.08 ERA on the season, but he’s twirled an absolute gem on more than one occasion this season. His record may sit at 5-9, but the peripherals are much better than that indicates. His 9.34 K/9 would be a career high, while his 1.87 BB/9 would be his second lowest as a professional. He’s limiting opponents to hard contact just 30.6 percent of the time, which is right around his career mark. Opponents have hit his fastball quite well this season, but his changeup has given them major fits in 2016. A .201 batting average is all opposing batters have to show for Shoemaker’s effective changeup. Also, of his 110 strikeouts this season, 68 have come via the changeup. Even if he gets hit around a bit, he offers plus strikeout potential that is hard to find in free agency at this point of the season.
