MLB Stacks Friday 5.4

New York Yankees

The Yankees will likely be one of the chalkier stacks on the slate, but boy oh boy, are they in a great spot. They come in with an implied run total sitting at 5.83, which is the highest on the slate by a good margin. They are at home so the positive park factor is another boost, and they are up against one of the worst pitchers in the league. Who is that pitcher you might ask? Well, that is none other than Josh Tomlin , who comes into this game allowing a .601 wOBA to left-handed hitters this year and a .382 wOBA to righties this year. Now it’s still early, so a small sample size, but last season he gave up a .335 wOBA or higher to both types of hitters. He also gave up 1.37 HR/9 or higher to both types of hitters last year, and his numbers from this season aren’t much better. Depending on how you stack up the Yankees, they can be very expensive, so it’s really just a matter of how much salary you have, and how many of them you can fit into your lineup. If you can, try to jam in their top four hitters: Didi Gregorius , Aaron Judge , Gary Sánchez and Giancarlo Stanton . We are looking at a stack with massive multi-home run upside and something that can win you a contest.

Oakland Athletics

The Athletics are up against Andrew Cashner , who has given up three or more earned runs in four of his six starts this year, and is a good target to pick on. Oakland has an implied run total sitting at 5.04, which is second highest on the slate, so if Vegas is projection some runs for them, you should get some exposure to them. Cashner has given up seven home runs in his six starts this season, with four home runs to lefties, and three to righties. Gotta love a pitcher who is equally bad to both sides of the plate, meaning you can really stack up whoever you want from Oakland. Cashner has also allowed two or more walks in every single start this season, so he is letting runners on, and that’s where the trouble starts for him. Really like the savings that Matt Joyce brings to your lineup, so look for him to be a solid play tonight. Then look at Jed Lowrie , who is very consistent as always, Marcus Semien , and Khris Davis , who is in a spot to break out of his slump.

Cincinnati Reds

The Reds are up against Wei-Yin Chen , who is making his second start of the season, so let’s take a look at some of his numbers from last season. Chen gave up 1.14 HR/9 to right-handed hitters last year, which was due in large part to his 51% fly ball rate against them. With numbers like that, and now in the Great American Small Park, which oddly enough, is a fantastic hitting environment, things won’t end well for him tonight. The righty bats for the Reds are in a great spot, so you should be targeting them where you can. José Peraza , Eugenio Suárez , Adam Duvall and even Tucker Barnhart all have some serious upside tonight. We are dealing with a full 15 game slate, so ownership won’t be an issue tonight, presenting the Reds with some nice GPP upside due to their home run potential vs Chen.
