Saturday is split between a nine game afternoon slate, and only a five game evening slate. Currently, it is looking like the afternoon slate is much more fantasy friendly than the evening one. On FD, the evening slate has Price as the top priced pitcher, while on DK, he is fourth, but more than $3k, $2K, and $1K less than Santana, McCullers, and Shoemaker in that order.
As always, things can change based on lineups and weather, so do stay up to date using the Playbook Pro tools. Below are my favorite stack options for the day. Good luck!
Stacks for Saturday, June 3
Ohio stack: Indians and Reds
Cleveland has made my stack radar that last few times, but they continue to be in a solid spot to produce. Tonight, they face Jason Hammel, who comes with a 6.18 ERA and 1-6 record. Of course, his only win this season came back in early May against these Indians where he allowed only one run off three hits. Since that win, Hammel had three straight losses before a 4 inning no decision last start. Indians hitters have 122 Extra-Base hits out of 288 total hits (42.4%) versus RHP this season (Rank: 2nd of 30 in MLB), and are patient, having drawn 130 walks in 1,272 PAs (10.2%) versus starting pitchers this season (Rank: 2nd of 30 in MLB). Edwin has the best BvP vs Hammel, batting .381 with 4 HR’s in 21 AB’s vs him.
Sticking in the state of Ohio, the Reds disappointed yesterday, but once again check in with an over five projected run total for the afternoon vs Dickey and the Mets. Dickey has had control issues with his pitching this season, and showing with a high 1.58 WHIP, that includes 14 walks, and 30 hits over his last four starts. Votto and Cozart have been the only two to see Dickey, and are a combined 6-15 with a HR (Votto). If he struggles with control, then the “fastball” comes, and Dickey has an average fastball velocity of just 82.5 MPH this season (Rank: 193rd of 193 qualified SPs in MLB; League Avg: 92.0). You also won’t see many K’s vs the Reds lefties, as Dickey struck out 6.3% (8/127) of left-handed batters he faced this season (Rank: 162nd of 163 qualified SPs in MLB).
Top Stack Suggestions:
Cleveland: Edwin Encarnacion, Michael Brantley, Jason Kipnis Yan Gomes
Cincinnati: Adam Duvall, Zack Cozart, Jose Peraza, Scott Schebler
Alternative Stack: Use Votto at first and Lindor at short. Can also play around with other OF combo’s.
Illinois stack: Cubs and White Sox
As mentioned above, the afternoon slate is much more fantasy friendly, and can easily make the case for roughly 4-5 more stack combo’s, but will stick with my all state stacks for the afternoon, and go with an Illinois one for my second option.
The Cubs are up against Mike Leake this afternoon at home. Leake had nine straight quality starts before allowing four runs in seven innings vs the Dodgers. Tht streak included a six inning loss to the Cubs, where Leake allowed two home runs. Zobrist, Rizzo, and Contreras have all taken Leake deep in the past, with Rizzo batting .372 over 43 lifetime AB’s, and Bryant hitting 9-20 vs him. The Cubs have been shuffling their lineup around, so keep an eye out for Happ if batting leadoff again.
I’m not opposed to stacking the entire Sox/Detroit game, with Detroit as the favorite and higher projected scoring team that also put up 15 runs last night, but will focus more on the Sox, who are up against Jordan Zimmermann today. He’s 1-1 this season vs the Sox, and is 4-2 with a 5.63 ERA over his career vs them. Will throw out one more time that I like Detroit as well against Gonzalez, who has even worse career numbers, with a 7.02 ERA in 12 appearances vs them over his career. Zimmerman has struggled with the long ball this season, having allowed 16 on the year, with four of those coming against the Sox. He’s allowed seven long balls over his last three starts. Once again picking a 1B from the state stack is the challenge, as Abreu is 7-12 with a homer off Zimmerman. Avi, Frazier, and Melky have all taken Jordan deep as well in the past.
Top Stack Suggestions:
Cubs: Ian Happ, Kris Bryant, Willson Contreras, Javier Baez
White Sox: Jose Abreu, Avisail Garcia, Melky Cabrera, Leury Garcia
*Alternative to this stack: Go with Rizzo and Zobrist over Happ and Bryant, the go Frazier over Abreu. Also can full stack Sox/Detriot.
Evening Slate
Pirates paired with Rays
With only five games for the evening slate, have to try to be a little different in gpp’s. While I believe Houston is in the best spot, with Boston right behind them, I’ll roll with a Pirates and Rays stack tonight.
The Pirates will face Robert Gsellman, who is 3-3 with a 5.75 ERA for the season. Pirates hitters have put 39.7% of their swings in play (580/1,461) with two strikes this season (Rank: 3rd of 30 in MLB), but opponents have a groundball rate of 68.5% (37/54) against Robert Gsellman as a starter with two strikes this season (Rank: 3rd of 156 qualified SPs in MLB; League Avg: 48.0%). Hopefully Pirate hitters can find the gaps today to put up a similar run line to their big game last night. Players like Frazier, Bell, and Freese are affordable, while McCutchen has played better , and in play even with a higher price tag.
The Rays provide the late night hammer option over Seattle, as well as the other game in the Twins/Angels. Sam Gaviglio has been starting mainly due to the SP injuries for Seattle. He hasn’t been horrible, with his worst game so far coming at Coors field. He checks in as the lowest priced pitcher on the two main sites tonight, and probably due to only having four strikeouts through his three starts (16 innings). Left-handed hitters have a miss rate of just 0.0% (0/28) against Sam Gaviglio as a starter over the last 14 days (Rank: 130th of 130 qualified SPs in MLB; League Avg: 21.3%), and the Rays lineup is filled with lefties. Dickerson, Kiermaier, Morrison, and Miller will provide you with nice left handed attack approach. Longoria is on roster watch after leaving the last game, which hopefully may move Miller up from the 8th spot he was in last night.
Top Stack Suggestions:
Pirates: Josh Bell, Adam Frazier, David Freese, Andrew McCutchen
Rays: Corey Dickerson, Kevin Kiermaier, Brad Miller, Tim Beckham
Alternative stack: Switch up Bell with Morrison, adding Freese for Pitt. Also like Houston stack paired with either team.
