Happy Patriots Day to those of you in the Boston area. For the rest of the country, no one cares. We know that. Especially the west coast folk because that just means that you have to get up at the butt-crack of dawn in order to get your lineups in on time. The slate for Monday is not as large as it is inconvenient, so you’ll just have to grit your teeth, choke down that extra cup of coffee and get ready to make some DFS decisions.
As we progress into the season, we’ll start using the data from 2016. While the sample size is tiny, we are still able to see some of the strengths and weaknesses of the pitchers. I have included the wOBA splits from 2015 because some of those 2016 numbers are still heavily skewed. Using last year’s totals should help you get some perspective on some of those more outlandish totals.

Noah Syndergaard, NYM – He’s the top pitcher on the slate facing one of the least productive offenses in the game right now. The Phillies have shown a slight improvement over the last week, but they still have just a .288 wOBA against righties and are fanning nearly 22-percent of the time. This should be an easy one for the Norse God of Thunder.
Hector Santiago, LAA – On a personal note, I hate to go against my boy Rodon here, but this match-up is too good to ignore. The White Sox are sitting on just a .282 wOBA against southpaws this year and have a putrid 29.4-percent strikeout rate. You can also note that their ISO is weak and that 1.5-percent walk rate means there little or no plate discipline to be had.
Jerad Eickhoff, PHI – Tough doing battle with Thor here but the good thing is that the Mets offense is wicked rough (that’s my shout out to those quietly celebrating Patriots Day). We’re looking at just a .289 wOBA a 23.7-percent strikeout rate. The win will be tough to achieve, but he can certainly help the rest of the way.
Phil Hughes, MIN – I’m on the fence with regard to which pitcher gets the win, but that doesn’t mean they can’t both still be productive, right? The Brewers .304 wOBA is a little on the high side given just how bad they’ve been, so look more to the 83 wRC+ and that 26.6-percent strikeout rate.
Chase Anderson, MIL – Looks like someone wised up over at Draft Kings and realized that Anderson was going to be too heavily-owned Monday if they didn’t bump his price up. Yes, that’s right. Even a tomato can like Anderson can have his value over-inflated by a tasty match-up and facing the hapless Twins is just that. Minnesota’s .286 wOBA is weak, they fan at a 24.9-percent rate and that .133 ISO isn’t scaring anyone, especially with the game being played at Target Field.
