We’ve got a nice, full slate tonight with some really tasty match-ups. Maybe it’s because I’m trying to focus more on cash games that I’m looking at fewer darts to throw (ran into a bit of a tourney slump), but that’s okay. You can still put together some great GPP lineups with some of the middle to upper-tiered guys if you’re looking in the right place. Here’s a look at the data and some of the players I’ll be using tonight.

Investing Heavily

Jake Arrieta, CHC – As I’ve said before, some guys just transcend the numbers. So while the Giants have a .320 wOBA against righties this season, I am simply not worried about using Arrieta tonight. He’s almost guaranteed the win while facing Peavy and the Giants’ wOBA has actually dropped to just .294 over the last week.

Gerrit Cole, PIT – I don’t LOVE this match-up as the Rockies, even on the road, can do some damage with the bats, but if we see the Cole who shut down the Cubs for eight innings last week, then he should be able to handle the Rox in pitcher-friendly PNC Bank Ballpark. He’s a really nice price pivot from Arrieta on Draft Kings.

Moderately Priced

Jose Quintana, CHW – I love the season Q is having this year and the Royals are struggling lately with their .295 wOBA over the last seven days. They’re also sitting on a .293 wOBA with a 19-percent strikeout rate against lefties this season, so look for Quintana to make it eight-straight quality starts tonight.

Aaron Nola, PHI – Much like that Coors adjustment we’re seeing in the DFS pricing, pitchers facing the Braves are growing costlier and some, like Nola here, are losing some of that inherent value. Still, how could you not love using him when the Braves rank dead last or close to it in virtually every offensive category? Add in Nola’s 56-percent ground ball rate and the fact that the Braves are mashing the ball into the dirt 49-percent of the time against righties and you’ve got DFS deliciousness.

Aaron Sanchez, TOR – He was cruising for a little while there until he ran into some trouble in Arlington during his last outing. Now, he gets a struggling Twins team that is sitting on a .288 wOBA with a 26.1-percent strikeout rate over the last week and the future couldn’t look brighter. Okay, maybe it could if you noticed Sanchez’ 59.2-percent ground ball rate and matched it up with the Twins’ rising ground ball numbers.

Middle Class

Hector Santiago, LAA – Some of the BvP data might scare you off, but if you’re just looking for a second pitcher on Draft Kings or Fantasy Aces who could provide you with a decent night, Santiago could be a nice play. The Orioles are sitting on a .295 wOBA with a 20.4-percent strikeout rate against lefties this season and that wOBA has dropped to just .286 over the last week.

Scott Kazmir, LAD – I rarely like to use Kazmir. Almost never, in fact. But facing the Padres is almost like a gift at this point. The Friars have a below-average .306 wOBA with a 26-percent strikeout rate against lefties and they've posted just a .236 wOBA over the last seven days. Do I even need to point out that they rank dead last in offense at home too?

Hisashi Iwakuma, SEA – He’s had his struggles this season, but the Reds have been struggling so much offensively that you almost have to give him a look, even if it’s just as a GPP flyer. The Reds have a.288 wOBA with a 23.3-percent strikeout rate against righties this year and those numbers have dropped to .283 and 23.9-percent over the last seven days.

Bargain Basement

Matt Wisler, ATL – Tough to really look at Wisler as anything but a contrarian GPP play, so I’ll categorize using him as such. The Phillies numbers have been looking solid over the last week or so, but that’s after facing the Reds and the Marlins, two teams whose pitching leaves little to be desired most days. On the season though, the Phillies have a .289 wOBA with a 21.2-percent strikeout rate against righties and if you put them at home, those numbers drop to .281 and 23.2-percent.
