As we tend to see on days where few aces are taking the mound, it’s a very top-heavy slate for DFS owners today. We’ve got some decent high-end options – though I just don’t like Jake Arrieta against the Pirates today – and then a number of darts with good match-ups for GPP play. Not the greatest run for the day but you do what you have to do to make it work. Here’s the data and some picks.

Corey Kluber, CLE – If you’re paying up for pitching, this is the direction in which I would go. The Twins have just a .305 wOBA with a 23-percent strikeout rate against righties this season and those numbers have dropped to .264 and 24-percent over the last seven days.

Jose Quintana, CHW – I do have a slight concern with his finger, so there is some risk that comes with this. But after watching Chris Sale mow down a sad-sack Yankees lineup, my faith in Q gets pumped up a little here. The Yankees struggle with southpaws this season and have just a .298 wOBA with a strikeout rate close to 20-percent.

Carlos Martinez, STL – The respiratory ailment is behind him and it’s time to get back to business. And what better way than to head into Chavez Ravine where the Dodgers are still ice cold (.276 wOBA) and have been struggling to consistently hit right-handed pitching?

Aaron Nola, PHI – I’ll be using Nola quite often today as the Reds are just a bad offensive team. He can handle the lefties such as Joey Votto fairly easily and he’s been inducing a ton of weak ground ball to right-handed hitting lately as well. The Reds have a .293 wOBA against righties that drops to .268 on the road and their strikeout rate hovers right around 23-percent.

Hisashi Iwakuma, SEA – The Angels bats have woken up a bit over the past two games, but they’re still posting just a .295 wOBA over the last seven days. You won’t see big strikeouts here, but you also won’t see a lot of power coming from the Halos with their .119 ISo agaibst righties this season.

Ervin Santana, MIN – If you’re paying down and aren’t too concerned with the win, this could be an interesting option. The Indians are right about at league average when it comes to facing righthanders, but they’re slumping big-time right now with their .272 wOBA and pathetic .347 slugging percentage over the last week.

Dillon Gee, KC – This is all about the Braves ineptitude than it is about Gee’s tralent. Probably because he has very little. But if you’re throwing darts, imagine the bats you’ll be able to use if this is your starter.
