Save for the Cubs rainout and Matt Moore eating a bag of d***s, it wasn’t too bad a day yesterday. I would have liked for the Yankees to let Ivan Nova go a full five innings and grab the win for me, but it was one GPP lineup and just a $1 entry so I’ve got plenty of other things I can cry about. Interesting slate today as there are a good number of options both for cash and GPP play. Let’s just get right to it.

Jon Lester, CHC – Here’s what I said about Lester’s match-up with the Padres yesterday: “How many different ways can we say the Padres are terrible? Maybe the .286 wOBA and 25.8-percent strikeout rate over the last seven days? They do have a slightly-better .311 wOBA versus southpaws this year, but then that strikeout rate also jumps to 26.6-percent.” My thoughts have not changed.

Jacob deGrom, NYM – I’m not sure how or why the Dodgers are so bad at home (.265 wOBA, 21-percent K-rate), but they are. The whole team. On the whole, against lefties and over the past week, their offense has been right about league average in production, but you put these guys into Chavez Ravine and something bad happens to them. Maybe it’s like a Space Jam thing where they’re powers are sapped. Either way, deGrom should bounce back from his weather-related poor outing in San Diego.

Masahiro Tanaka, NYY – He looked great in his last outing against a much harder-hitting Orioles team, so I have the utmost of confidence in him against a Royals squad that has a sub-.300 wOBA both on the road and over the last seven days. Their numbers against right-handers this season is average at best and they’re even striking out at a 20-percent clip.

Juan Nicasio, PIT – The last time he faced the Reds, he held them scoreless for seven innings and allowed just two hits and a walk while striking out eight. He also induced nine ground ball outs, so that’s an even bigger bonus with the game being played at Great American Smallpark. The Reds have a .296 wOBA with a 23-percent strikeout rate against right-handers and those numbers have actually improved dramatically thanks to their series against the Brewers. Don’t be fooled. The Reds still stink.

Kevin Gausman, BAL – He had a very impressive outing against the Yankees his last time out and his start against the White Sox just before looked pretty darn good too. He pitches to a a fair amount of contact but also induces a good number of ground balls as well which helps when he’s at home. On the road in Minnesota tonight though, makes that less of a concern. The Twins have posted just a .266 wOBA over the last week and are striking out at a rate of 23.2-percent. Gausman should make for a solid option for GPPplay.

Adam Morgan, PHI – How bad are the Braves? Crazy bad. A .252 wOBA over the last seven days is ridiculously weak and the fact that they have a .240 wOBA with a 26-percent strikeout rate against lefties means that Morgan is suddenly going to be a chalky GPP play tonight.

Mike Leake, STL – Are the Angels ever going to get back on-track offensively? Hard to say, which kills me because I’ve always been one of Mike Trout’s biggest supporters. They don’t strike out a lot, but have just a .291 wOBA over the last week, a .287 wOBA against righties and just a .282 wOBA at home. They struggle for consistent production game in and game out, so if you need a dart for the day, Leake could be your answer.
