Not only do we have a short slate, but these match-ups are not at all favorable here. You’ve got one or two you might want to give a try, but this seems to be one of those days where you skip the cash games and just play GPPs. Yeah, it’s that sketchy. Here’s a look at the data and a few recommendations you might want to investigate further.

Drew Pomeranz, SD – Believe it or not, he’s the top pitcher on the board and priced through the roof on all three main sites. While the Dodgers have been swinging the bats pretty well as of late, the still have just a .303 wOBA at home and against lefties, they’re even worse with a .288 wOBA on the year and a 20.1-percent strikeout rate.

Rich Hill, OAK – Hill’s recent return from the DL was a successful outing against the Pirates last week and now he gets the Astros who rank 22nd in the league against southpaws with a .310 wOBA and a 23.4-percent strikeout rate. The Astros are mashing the ball in the dirt 47.1-percent of the time against left-handed pitching, so Hill’s 1.76 GB/FB should shine through here. Run support, keep in mind, could be an issue though.

Trevor Bauer, CLE – A little piece of me dies inside when I recommend a starter against my Yankees, but this is business, not personal. The Bronx Bombers are hardly that against right-handed pitching as they rank 22nd in the league with a .308 wOBA and that comes with a less than stellar 88 wRC+ this year.

James Paxton, SEA – We’re now moving into dicey territory here as the Royals have hit lefties fairly well this year. However, over the past week, their offense has been atrocious. Over the past week, the Royals have posted a dismal .265 wOBA which comes with a .373 slugging percentage and a lousy 23.1-percent strikeout rate.

Doug Fister, HOU – Battling Rich Hill for the win should prove to be a challenge, but if the Astros can get to him early, there’s a chance Fister comes out on top. The A’s are absolutely awful right now. Awful. We’re talking a .261 wOBA that comes with a 20.8-percent strikeout rate and a woeful .125 ISO.

Bartolo Colon, NYM – How about a baked potato for a GPP dart? Yeah, that’s right. Still holding onto that Jeff Mans call that Colon looks just like a spud. The Nationals are just below league-average when it comes to numbers against right-handed pitching, so that, plus with the way Colon handled them earlier this season, I’m thinking a GPP dart is in order. He faced them in back-to-back games in May and while he allowed three runs in just four innings in the first game, he came back and held them to just one run in seven innings for the second. Overall, he’s got a 3.09 ERA against them this year. It’s worth a shot, right?
