Live from two nights of Phish at the Gorge Amphitheater in George, WA!
While many of you who take part in the Mock Draft Army already know that I’m away for the weekend and re-charging my batteries, you didn’t think I was going to leave you hanging for the first day of the second half of the MLB season, did you? Dedication or insanity? How about a little from Column A and a little from Column B. Nevertheless, let’s dive into some numbers and see which pitchers we’re going to use for DFS play Friday.

Madison Bumgarner, SF – While the Padres numbers against left-handed pitching looked strong in the first half, their numbers against MadBum just don’t look good. The Giants ace has a 1.72 ERA with a 0.83 WHIP and 20:2 K:BB over 15.2 innings against them this season and holding them to a .190 average against.
Stephen Strasburg, WAS – After coming off the DL, Strasburg allowed one run over 13.2 innings and while the walks had been high, the 14 strikeouts were key. The Pirates started to come out of their funk just before the break, but a 23.4-percent strikeout rate over the finakl two weeks of the first half still speak volumes.
Carlos Carrasco, CLE – His defense let him down during his last outing, but that’s not the norm, by any means. What I’m looking at is a guy who came back from being hurt and found a serious groove right before that game. He’s allowed just seven earned runs over his last 39.1 innings (six starts) with 44 strikeouts. The Twins bats are barely league average against right-handers and barely league average at Target Field.
Marcus Stroman, TOR – Love the ground ball rates, love the fact that this game is in Oakland and I love the fact that the A’s are sitting on a 27th-ranked wOBA against right-handed pitching with a fairly innocuous .688 slugging percentage.
Bartolo Colon, NYM – Say what you want abaout Colon, the Phillies bats are still worse. They posted a .303 wOBA with a 21-percent strikeout rate against right-handed pitching in the first half and while Colon hasn’t seen them since April, he still has a 3.00 ERA with an 11:1 K:BB over 12 innings against them. For the price, why not play him with some big bats in a GPP?
Jorge De La Rosa, COL – I’m real lukewarm on all Rockies pitchers and have a tough time putting my trust in De La Rosa. However, the game is on the road and the game is against Atlanta. We’ve got a pitcher’s park and a team that has a .280 wOBA with a .111 ISO and 21-percent strikeout rate against lefties this season.
James Paxton, SEA – It’s more dart time with lefties, sp why not give Paxton a look in a low-cost GPP? He’s had his struggles thus far, but so have the Astros. In fact, the Astros’ .304 wOBA against southpaws ranks 27th in the league and they’re doing it with a 23.8-percent strikeout rate. I probably wouldn’t do this without using an Astros stack in another cash game just to stay covered.
Yovani Gallardo, BAL – OK, last dart. Gallardo is another guy I hate to use, but the match-up against the Rays looks pretty tasty on paper. The Rays have been awful with just a .301 wOBA against righties this season and they’re doing it with a 25-percent strikeout rate. I’m using him in a single-entry $1 GPP just for shits and giggles! Damn, you can fit some big bats in!
