I’d say “happy Monday” to you all, but anyone who has already checked out today’s pitching slate knows there is absolutely nothing happy about it. Yuck! No, seriously. Sometimes you can throw a dart on a great match-up, but I don’t even see any of those today. While part of my job is to help offer suggestions, another part of my job is to also tell you to be careful; that today may not be a day in which you want to heavily invest. There’s one pitcher, and I’m sure you already know who, I like for cash games and anyone else, you’re putting your money at risk. If you’re going to play around in the GPPs, just be smart with your bankroll today.

Now here’s the rest…

Jose Fernandez, MIA – Yup. He’s the one. The only one in whom I really trust today and funny enough, his last two outings haven’t exactly been vintage Jose. Don’t worry about his numbers against the Giants this season as that start was back in April when he was trying to get himself into his groove. Instead, focus on his 2.11 ERA and 113 strikeouts over 76.2 innings at home this season. The Giants are having some offensive struggles right now -- .290 wOBA with a 22.9-percent strikeout rate – over the last week, so that should help boost Fernandez’ numbers.

Jake Odorizzi, TB – Somebody call a doctor and get me an MRI! STAT!!! I’m going to use Odorizzi in a couple of GPPs tonight. Yup. In Toronto, no less. The 26-year old right-hander has four-straight quality starts, hasn’t allowed a run in his last three outings and has the scoreless innings streak at 20.2 right now. The Jays’ bats have been ice cold over the past seven days with a .259 wOBA and a 31.2-percent K-rate and while Odorizzi’s wOBA splits versus righties aren’t the tastiest, he has had success against them this year – 2.04 ERA over 17.2 innings (three starts) including just two runs allowed in five innings at the Rogers Centre.

Kevin Gausman, BAL – Three of his last four starts have been right on the money and the one that wasn’t was in Toronto back when the Blue Jays were still hitting. Now he gets the A’s who rank 27th with a .301 wOBA against righties, 29th with a .288 wOBA at home and 23rd with a .291 wOBA over the last seven days. If he can keep the right-handed bats in check and maintain that solid 1.47 GB/FB, he should be able to post solid numbers.

Julio Urias, LAD – The Phillies are sitting right around league-average for the past week with a .319 wOBA, but they do have a 23.5-percent strikeout rate and just a .429 slugging percentage. They’ve never consistently fared well against southpaws (.283 wOBA) and, as evidenced by the .110 ISO, don’t hit for much power against them either. It’s definitely a dart and there will always be concerns as to how deep in the game Urias can go, but using him on FanDuel and Draft Kings should allow you to get some strong bats in there.
